I know Im a bit in the old side to watch this, however, it boggles my mind whenever i watch it. these rich kids from the US celebrate their sweet 16 birthdays in a very big way. I mean the works. venue that costs $10,000. clothes, diamonds, and everything on the side. to top it all of, they are real brats most of them and cannot get enough. Their parents doesn't seem to mind to spoil them and give in to any of their whims and tantrums. i mean BECAUSE of their tantrums that by the end of the party, there is a surprise. usually a $100,000 sports car!!! Do you watch it?

My daughter and I have watched this show before. We both find it astounding that these kids get whatever they want and then their parents wonder why they have so many problems when they enter the real world. I live in the US and this is not a typical birthday party. When I was growing up, it was just my parents and my brother at my birthday parties, my mother made my cake at home and decorated it herself. We were very poor and we did what we could. I was allowed to have one big party on my 10th birthday which I had at a roller skating rink. My mother made me a Wonder Woman Cake and I was so excited about it. For my brothers one big birthday party, she made him a Dukes Of Hazard cake. It was the General Lee car. We thought that was great. Anyway, those crazy $200,000 birthdays are not typical of american youth lol.

Yeah, I think it is very ridiculous to say the least. I just wonder what the parents think about. How would the kids survive when lets say, they go bankcrupt suddenly? anyways, so much money they don't know what to do with it. I like your story. It was like that for us too when we were kids. we did have birthday parties every year until I was ten but only families & friends. no cakes i'm afraid. just "pancit" that is stirred fried noodles and stuff... now i try to give my kids parties for their birthday yearly. with the same kind of celebration... few friends and our families.

Thanks for the best response rating! I truly appreciate it. Honestly, I treasure these small parties with my family and a few close friends more than anything that would cost that much. I think that your story about your childhood parties, not even having a cake is special and it is nice that you continue the tradition with your children.

I have to say that I guarantee it's not only "Rich Kids in the US" who celebrate that way. Honestly. But besides that fact it is ridiculous. I only watch it every so often and I think it's crazy. It's called over priveledged kids with parents who don't know what to do with them besides giving them money.

The first and last time I watched that show was just before I turned 16. It was probably no more than a week before my birthday when I saw this show on the TV Guide and thought I might see what it's about in the spirit of celebrating my 16th birthday. I was greeted with the sight of over-pampered, mind numbingly annoying, rich kids who got parties which cost more than the worth of my own house. I think it's a stupid show, along with most of the shows on MTV. It reminds me just how much I hate stupid people. These people are supposed to be the future of the nation, and they're throwing a fit because mommy and daddy didn't make sure everything went perfectly? Yeah, I'll pass. I've been around enough pre-Madonna's to know that I can't stand their presence, much less willingly watch them on TV.

Here in Canada I have hear of Sweet 16 and that the girls get a more special birthday because of it. I never heard of girls getting all that before and I think it is nuts. One thing I do like about it though is that it makes me appreciate my happy poor little family. We may not have tons of money and stuff but we are happy together.

Yeah and I realise that soem girls in high school with me actually had these expensive parties. A total waste of moeny if you ask me. Look at the younger sister she was upset when the older one used her money to help to pay the workers. She was so selfish and ungiving and sad to say that is how we aare sometimes too. I wonder if its the same movie? i watch so many movies that I get it all mixed up. let me knwo if it is the correct one indeed. thanks
