I think it can be both. It is a necessity if you are in your car and you're stranded somewhere....at least then you can call for help instead of having to wait. Especially if you are in the middle of nowhere. But texting friends and stuff is more of a luxury. I still don't think I'd go anywhere without my cell phone though!

Dopey22girl, so you consider a simple cellphone without the added features. The added features, I think, falls into luxury. But basically, a cellphone is a necesitty, right? Thank you for responding!

i think cellular phones nowadays are luxury. i mean, if a person's only purpose is to use it as means of communication. why do they have to splurge on units that costs the same as a semester in a college/university.

Hello friend, Cellphone is necessity but some times in some persons it is luxury... Most of persons uses cellphones only to make and receive calls.. For that a small handset like nokia 1100 is enough... But when he take an N73 for that, it will become luxury.. Am i correct? I want to use GPRS in my mobile and also i'm a college student... So that i use my cellphone to send sms and to use GPRS.. My handset is nokia 6233.. It also have a 2 megapixel camera and its sound have high clarity.. But in college life camera and that music player is necessary.. So don't think i am luxurious... Can say i am luxurious because the phone also has so many other options which i'm not using.. Anyway according to me, i am not luxurious... Thats all dear friend.. I am concluding my discussion... Thank you...

It can be both depending on the attitude of the person. If he/she is the kind who goes all the way to getting the newest and sleekest design then he/she isn't being practical and goes for the luxury side of the cellphone. On the other hand, if he/she doesn't see anything else in a mobile phone and only as a means of communication then that's more of a necessity. I guess it's a personal thing. There are those who just can't help but see other people having better phones than his/her. Media does indeed play the Devil's Advocate role. :)

Yes, definitely a cell phone is a necessity. Life is easier nowadays with the use of cellphones. We can get in touch and do business anytime any day with the use of our cellphones. We can do bank transaction also with our cellphones and go through our computer emails. So yes, it is a necessity!
