Baby left to die in the desert

Anyone here about the story of the woman in New Mexico who left her baby to die, naked in the cold desert night. She just left him in a field. She's been in a psychiatric hospital ever since police found her wandering the roadside naked. I can't even imagine - but my heart and mind keep trying to - what it must've been like for that baby. Cold, alone, frightened.

what a piteous baby!in this kind of disastrous event it's reasonable to blame the goverment or authority.for a woman with psychiatric ailment, keeping her custody is not a retional option.it may be extreemly dangerous to the baby.such an atrocity only revealed the uneffectiveness of the authority and unmaturity of social infrastructure.

I saw it on the news today. If you check Albuquerque news stations online they may have something about it.

She was a psychiatric patient, that explains the issue. A normal average human being cannot leave her baby in a cold desert like this. An abnormal mother is unable to thinkg about the pros and cons of leaving a child in a desert. I think that woman needed to be treated medically.

I agree with you that we as a parents remain very protective and vigilant towards our children. I can understand your feelings towards your child. It is but natural. :):) Deepak

No I can't. He must have felt horribly afraid and isolated. Who would do that to a child?

What a tradgey. Sometimes I think that there is not enough of us watching out for others who maybe feeling depressed or have emotional problems. There was a case in the paper this morning about a woman in Lakeville mn. who let her 11 month old baby take a bath with a 3 year old and the baby drowned while she was online buying things. She had many warning signs and her parents tried to get social services to intervien but they didn't.....and now the child is gone.

That is tricky. My son and his wife have had two daycares. The first one on the outside seemed like such a good place to put my granddaughter. Then one day the lady needed off to go to court...for child endangerment. When they fired her and put Ali in a new daycare...man did she change. She is so happy all the time...learns new things and they have made her part of their family for the times she is there.....when the day care provider was on vacation she asked them to bring Ali over for a day as they all missed her so much.....now that is a good daycare.

I was just thinking of this too (along with how people abandoned pets, don't ask how the train of thought works). I can't imagine what goes through peoples minds to do this kind of thing. It's sickening and I'm just speechless over this one. I've seen this before in other cases, but its always terrible and it does shake me up.

I can see how the train of thought works there (of course I am the random queen) - I too think what dogs who are unwanted must feel like left on the side of the road because they were more trouble then the people imagined. It is sickening. I'm trying not to think of it but my mind keeps straying to what he must've been feeling.

It must be hard to be so crazy as to leave your own baby to die. Was it a new born? And with all that desert area, hard to search for it and only to arrive there too late. I suppose the heat got to her and she just went stark raving mad. I doubt she even knew what she was doing. You have not given us the link to the news story so we can read it for ourselves. Having an opinion does no good if we do not know whether the woman was really crazy, or how old the baby was, so I have no idea how much pain it was, whether it was able to crawl around, or to say a few words. If it were a newborn, then it could only cry and could not move around or wriggle. That would be horrible.

I hadn't heard about that but how horrible. Who could ever do something like that? Did the baby survive or did it die? It breaks my heart when I hear of things like this. The mother will probably get off with nothing but pschyiatric treatment! The defense will probably be post partum depression, which although I know that's a real condition, I'm not disputing that, I don't think it's justification for abusing or neglecting your children! Thats ver cruel..but i dont know whom to blame for this incident as the women is a mentally ill and cant be blamed for her acts..but certainly i worry for the small baby which might have suffered a lot in the cold climate naked and would ahve cried much in that lonely night..please update whether the rescued baby is alright now in home ..

Wait, the police found the mother wandering the roadside naked or the baby? Assuming it was the mother, how and by who was the baby found? What a terrible terrible thing! Poor little baby! I wish people who couldn't handle kids just couldn't have them! It would be so much better!

Wow! That is crazy! I am glad the baby was found okay though! That's good. Did the police find her or just someone wandering around the desert? lol. I mean physically, parents who can't care for kids, shouldn't be able to have them. The big guy upstairs should keep them sterile. lol

Gosh, that is a sad story, the mother is not in the right mind that's why she left the baby there, somebody could have saved the baby if they know she's obviously crazy. poor baby, hope he/she's in heaven now.

Yes, its true. I'm a believer that this isn't our only form of existance. However that must've been a very long night for that poor baby.
