Memory of older people

I had a relative of mine who is really old and does not remember man ythings that happened in recent past, including his 80th birthday which we celebrated very well. But he can remember every single thing that happened in his life something like 20 years or before. Why is it happening so? As people grow older, somtimes distant past is easier to remember than the near past. Why do you think this is so? You ever had such experiences?

I think they remember their younger years because they were learning things in which made the most impression on themselves. Also too, because their minds were so fresh and easy to grasp a hold of things much better than as an older person and also because their minds were affected by the disease. As soon the disease hits, it affects the memory from then on out.

Hello there. I think your relative is suffering from Alzheimer. Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies or social life. Alzheimer’s gets worse over time, and it is fatal. People with Alzheimer tends to remember things that happened long time ago and forget about things that happen recently. It's better for your relative to go and see a doctor. I think it's better to be cautious here and go for checkup before it's too late.

I dont know why it happened like that. But I know its quite common among old people since I was a nurse before.Maybe the substance of their brain cell has changed.
