My son buys at school. I have tried to pack for him, but he insists on doing what his buddies do.

My boys are teens now, so taking a lunch is just not cool lol. They buy theirs at school. ~Remember to give out +'s when it's deserved & select best responses. It helps us all out ;-]

When my children were young and in school I always packed their lunch. The trick with the older ones is to pack a lunch that the other kids will envy. I watched a program on T.V. once about a retired chef. He started a lunch program at the local school. He made healthy things like his baked potato. He hollowed out the cooked potato, mixed it with chopped broccili, grated cheese, and chopped onions and filled the empty potato skin with the mixture. The kids just loved it. If they had had healthy food like this when my kids went to school I certainly would have let them eat in the school cafeteria. I always added 'love notes' in their lunches.

I pack my childs lunch...being autistic there are many foods she will not eat and she is on a low wheat low dairy diet. So I have control over what she eats and know what I do send she will eat.

My kids aren't at that stage yet. You can't buy your lunch until you reach high-school around age 12. I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I like the idea the previous poster suggested of allowing them to buy one thing only.

I liked that idea too. Here you can start to buy lunch in kindergarden. Thanks for sharing!

They are full of preservatives! Check the label. Last time I looked at one the sodium was outrageous.

My kids pack a lunch and get to pick ONE day a week to buy lunch at school. This is more affordable for me, and if they only get to buy once, they choose carefully and it is a special thing for them.

Mine does both. She makes me read from the school lunch calendar every morning then she makes her decision. I don't mind either way, but school lunches are not cheap!

My kids buy their lunch, though they would like to pack it a lot of times. I find it is just so much easier to buy it, and its really not that expensive.

My daughter eats a school lunch most of the time. We get a monthly lunch menu and on the days that she doesn't like what they are making I pack a lunch for her. It is usually only 2 or 3 times a month.

My kids eat at school as I think it's probably better for them than a cold packed lunch. However, there are times when my kids refuse to eat whatever's for lunch that day.

My kids always take their lunch. The only days that they can buy lunch at school is for hot dog or pizza days. My kids don't like hot dogs so they just ususally have piza every friday. I wish that they could buy thier lunch at school because sometimes it difficult to pack things that my son will eat. His favorite lunch is peaniut butter sandwiches, but since his school went nut free it has been a challenge. My daughter, on the other hand will eat almost anything. Her favorite lunch is crab wraps.

Your children's school doesn't offer lunch everyday?
