Why do people actually pay money to play games?

I've seen people actually pay money to play games, and some of these games people're throwing their money away for would take me about an hour worth of scripting. Why do you think people throw their money away so easily on a game, but when they're looking places in real-life they're much more secure about their money. Discuss!

Because the games are just too darn fun. My husband and I play World of Warcraft, and that gets so expensive because you have to buy it and then pay monthly to play. But there are so many different things you can do in the game, and you get to play with other people, and explore the whole world of the same. We tried switching to Guild Wars because it doesn't have the monthly fee, but the graphics weren't as good, and overall it just wasn't as well done. The games that charge a monthly fee can just afford to expand more and have better graphics and such.

You must reveal to me what server and what side on World of Warcraft. I may just have another reason to come back. You can do it via PM if thats what you want.

I think our horde characters are on Gorgonash and then there are a few different servers where I've made Alliance characters. I don't really have a character I'm attached to or really playing right now though. To be honest I've been more addicted to mylot and such than to WoW lately, though I'm sure it'll swing back the other way eventually.

WHAT!? You're kidding?! That is nuts! Try googling my name on Gorgannash/horde side. Without "the". I started getting in the expansion but I just wanted to stop for a bit. I'm also on Skywall with other people or was/alliance side.

Some people find games fun, and they're a mode of entertainment. No different than paying to go see a movie, go to a concert, or go to a sporting event. They're just choosing to spend their money on something else. I don't think you can say they're throwing away their money - they're just choosing to spend it on gaming instead of something else. We all have our hobbies and enjoyments that we pay for. For some, it's gaming.

Just like other people pay for enjoyment I have fun playing video games. I do believe they are too much to own though so thats why I rent them. I usually don't buy games unless I really like them.

All because games (mostly for the young) and even casino games (for the young once) are so addictive that anybody started to get hooked with the system will really be enticed to spend money just to be able to continue gaming. And online games are structured that way, structured so that gamers and/or participants get addicted. The control then is on the parents. Watch the habits of your kids because they all need guidance. Even the brightest kids could gone bad. Sad to say, a lot of parents are not doing their parental responsibilities and we are now bearing all the negative fruits in the society we have now. Just look around, and we could understand what I mean.

Money is no problem to many people. They do not know the value of money. Abudence of money may cause to through it away in cost of getting enjoyment. Games are source of entertainment and also a source of passing the time. They use to kill the time and they do not know that time is gradually killing them. They people, who can understand the value of money could not flow it on games. So you should watch the show and keep you safe louiewphs.

Some games are worth it. I once played World of Warcraft and had a heck of a time in it. Even if it could be scripted in an hour or simulated on a remote server, you still have a lack of what made the game worth paying for, playing against many people on many different servers.

I actually meant to say an online-based php-scripted kind of game. Like. I'm sure you've seen those weird text-based games that're out there. Or just some browser-based games in particular. At the time I posted this question though.. I was a bit sleep-deprived and it kind of came out wrong... and for whatever the reason, you dont have the choice to edit your post..

Well for me, I rather spend my money on games and anime instead of new clothes, makeup, or whatever else. In fact I usually don't enjoy shopping unless it's for games/anime/toys/etc XD Everyone needs a hobby. Besides, I think you are drasticly under estimating the amount of time that goes into programing a videogame. I can't think of a single game that I've purchased that could be completed in an hour. and it's not just programing, but artwork, storyline, debugging, packaging, liscensing fees, marketing, etc. Money is just money, can't eat it, can't wear it, it won't keep you warm, won't entertain you, won't love you, money is meant to be spent. Can't take it with you when you go. After responsiblities are taken care of (bills, rent, whatever) why not enjoy life and use it to buy things that make you happy.

I was actually refering to online, text-based php games but I kind of messed my discussion up & was too vague as well, *sigh* text-based php games are coded in not too much time at all, and then added & added upon with little to no effort, and they charge people insanely huge amounts of money and it's just silly. I suppose my discussion probably turned out better because I messed it up though, lol
