i share a room with my teenager niece, her bed is just beside mine and that was our set-up for many years now. but i have a problem with her night habbit since she sleepwalk. i often caught her in the middle of the night getting up. the first time she did that i just thought that she's awake and just need to use a restroom, its just few months later that i realize she's not awake and just sleepwalking. its just natural i think but i'm a bit afraid for her since our room is on the 2nd floor and she might fall from the stairs. what do you think is the reason why someone sleepswalk? is there any way to have it avoided?

i was sleepwalking when i was little...and my mother was getting scared as she woke up in the middle of the night and i was just stearing at her, standing next to her bed..i remember her asking me why im there,i realised im out of bed,in the dark,i was confused and went back to my room.. i know she took me to my cousin's grandma, who knew some words for it and used a...methal i think or something,i think it was a traditonal cure,u know...how old ladies do...it was supposed to be to cure the fear,as she believed im afraid of something, and that was the cause of my sleepwalking..and i think it worked,as i never did it again:) sometimes i'm scared too when i remember,it is weird not to remember when u got out of bed :)

well friend.for the sleepwalk, even the medical experts dont have any accurate explain now.it's said that this kind of behavior is due to some subliminal reasons. i once had a roomate who also have this problem.he stand up,brush his tooth even start computer while sleeping.fortunately nothing hazardous happened to him.he once placed some glass bottles around him so that he thought the sound when he knocked down the bottels can woke him up.but guess what,no matter how many bottles he placed and how complicated of their foemation he never knock down one bottle even once!incredible, right?it even sounds impossible for a person who is awake.isnt it?

i just saw an episode of IS IT REAL in national geographic an hour ago..the title was SLEEPWALKING MURDERS...it is very hard to believe that they happen but really there are those people who sleepwalk.,,there is one story where a husband killed her wife and drowned her in the pool and he later claimed that he was sleepwalking during that time of the incident and that he could not do that to his wife.

My daughter used to sleep walk and sleep talk. Her bedroom was upstairs and she'd often times walk down the stairs during her sleep walking episodes. I'm not really sure what causes sleep walking. But I've heard that stress could be one factor.

Good question. I remember babysitting a little boy who would sleepwalk. He did not talk about what was bothering him. Seems people that sleepwalk have a deep secret or problem they themselves don´t want to talk about. Or think about. In there sleep everything comes out. I have even heard of people wanting to loose weight, being on a diet and the next morning all the food is gone. These people gain weight and did not now they were eatting the whole night.I would call this frustration. You want so bad to loose weight that you get frusterated. Don´t worry about her falling from the stairs. That normally won´t happen. Don´t call her by her name, that can cause an accident because she could wake up and be schoked. Normally there is nothing to be worried about. Lots of teens have this problem. Because of the big changes in life. It is sometimes hard to keep up with reality. Normally this fase goes away by itself. Others need to talk more about there feelings. What they have bottled up inside themselfs. So my answer would be; to avoid it, make her talk by asking alot of questions. Don´t be hard, be soft and be a good friend. Take care and good luck.
