Insights on Desperate Housewives' Philippines racist scandal

so far we've seen the contempt of Filipinos over the scandal But as a Filipino residing in the Phils myself, i believe that the comment was merely nothing more than it was - a joke. In being exposed to American culture through its media, i have seen that the topic of race is supposed to be funny. For Americans, the "Philippines" simply means "some obscure, unknown country, far from civilization,which probably doesnt even exist." We know how Americans are and their stereotypes when it concerns people from other races.Conan O'Brien mentioned it once: He said he was able to send someone to get a copy of MacGyver in the Philippines, again affirming my aforementioned definition of the country. MADtv once aired an episode where a cast member, playing a racist white female said that Filipino men look like girls,but nobody really noticed. But not all Americans Tyra banks actually knew that Filipinosare ignorant - spoke Tagalog, in an interview ith Vanessa Hudgens.

i don't think it qas that bad either. i mean there is a new show in the US that makes fun of arabs. aren't filipinos racist too? what do you call arabs here? BUMBAY!! i think that they may have overreacted
