Hopefully this will organize me

I was having a hard time with the "discussions my friends started" section. I knew I was missing out discussions and seeing ones I already had and stuff. It was getting so confusing to keep up with. So I made an e-mail address and put notification on for all my friends so that I can't miss your discussions. I am hoping this will make things easier. How do you do it? If you are doing it this way do you find it easier than before?

I only have 52 friends, so it' not that hard to keep on track with those. 1-2 times a week I go throught the whole list and I go see every one discussion. Sometimes I will answer a discussion that is 4 month old. The other day, I will simply go in the section discussion my friends started and go see what new topic I cam answer.

Thanks beyonce03 that is what I was doing too. But sometimes I will see an old post and go I would have loved to answer that a month ago but I missed it somehow.

I have a seperate gmail account that is only for MyLot. That way I can just go through and pick out however many discussions I want to respond to and answer them. !!HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I find it much easier with all my friend notifications on. It doesn't mean I have to answer them all, because I can't contribute to every discussion. But I like not missing out on things I would miss if I only checked out the 'discussions my friends started.' I had trouble with it constantly bringing up old discussions from my friends. I would think they were new, but they weren't.

I had the same problem too of old discussions in my friends section. I don't plan to respond to all of them, like some politics of a far off land. Just nothing to add cause I don't know nothing about it. Thanks AmbiePam

I never could dissect the music of the Beatles, so I had to skip those discussions. ; )

I've chosen not to use e-mail notification. I did that on another forum and felt like I became a slave to it. I felt obligated to open each and every one. It got out of hand. When I came to myLot I didn't want to do that again. I kind of "go with the flow" when it comes to replying to discussions. I look at the discussions my friend start. I look at "similar discussions" at the bottom of mine and other discussions. I look at "Top discussions". Sometimes, I will go through my friends list and check out the discussions of some particular friends who regularly reply to my discussions. Sometimes, I will choose one of my discussions and go down the list of each person that replied to it and reply to at least one of their discussions. I do think it's important to reciprocate with replies to those who reply to our discussions, but my time here is limited so I don't have an exact routine to how I do things here. Good luck.

thanks miamilady, I am sure if I feel like it becomes too much I will just turn it off. I don't think people take it to heart if I can't respond to all their discussions. Not everyone can respond to mine either.

I've always had notification on. I just think it's the only way I'd ever remember to do it. If I just had it the way you did I'd never remember to answer my friends discussions. In all honesty at least 60% of the ones I get in email I delete and never respond to. It's really sad when someone posts 17 discussions (this happens) in one and (for serious) and I end up answering NONE..cause they're all one liners or boring or not relatable to me (like all about kids as I don't have any, I have a cat). I was away this weekend though and I came back to almost 50 new emails which are all friends new posts notifications...and then some friends have like 17 new posts which don't count in the 50 new emails. So I'll be spending a while catching up. It's the easiest way to do it though. it just takes a while to clean out your inbox after you are away for 2 days!

I now have seen what you mean Raychill. I am now getting those. But it is amazing how much I am catching and it is going by a lot faster than searching out everything.

Well, lately for me, the thing is time. Finding time to be in here is a Chore at times due to a Busy lifestyle. But I do have Friends who anytime they post a New discussion and I catch it, I will go in and answer the discussion, but even at that, it is hard to keep up. Plus when you have been here a long time and get a lot of friends here that you Love to correspond back and forth with via discussions, it can be hard to keep up. But your idea sounds like a Good one. Hope it works well for you.

I think this was a very good idea. I think that I might implement that. I am not a very organized person. Adult ADD is my problem, so I am always looking for ways to help me be organized. I think that you have hit on something to help me.

I have a seperate email address just for mylot, also. I have all my notify buttons on so I get an email for every friend that starts a discussion. Whne I am responding to them I scroll down the page after I posted it and see if there are any more discussions I can respond to. I have 65 friends on my list but I am going to go through them and see which ones aren't active and delete some and request more new ones. My friends aren't very active, and as of late I am only getting about 20 emails a day stating that one of my friends started a new discussion. I used to get about 100 but for the last couple weeks I don't get very many at all. I also see a lot of my friends don't respond to my discussions either. SO this is a job I want to do today. I think I will start that right now. Thanks for this discussion. I see you are more active than most of my friends so I will request your friendship. Good posting to you.
