I just have to ask.
I know that some myLotters are very passionately anti-illegal alien.
I was just watching a movie and it put this thought in my head.
Let me tell you about the scene then I'll ask you your thoughts.
The characters are in medical. They are in an experimental program where first year med students are allowed contact with patients.
In the scene, the doctor allows the student to stitch up a patient. It wasn't anything extremely dangerous, but what she said was...
"You gotta learn sometime, better on an illegal alien, they can't sue you".
It just got me thinking about some peoples views regading illegal alliens.
Are they less than human and less desserving of basic human rights because they broke our laws?
What are your thoughts?
Forgive me for not posting follow up relies to your discussions, but I don't intend to get into a heated debate about this, for fear of being bannes as well as for my own stress level.
But, I do want to know your thoughts.
Thanks,
Miamilady

Well in "God's universe" and if that universe where to adhere to the teachings of the bible, it would be heavenly wouldn't it? There would be no evil, no poverty, no adultery, no murder and so on, of course that is saying everyone did what the bible said. Well if you haven't noticed not everyone follows the bible, so therefore there are crimes/sins committed. obviously we are not living in the time of Jesus and his disciples, we have tons of technology as well as tons of criminals who know how to use that technology which isn't a very good mix. If we didn't have those invisible borders as you call them, terrorists could just walk in and blow up a crap load of things. I know the US has some enemies because we can't help but be in everyones business and /or they just don't like how we run our country. We have to check who is wanting to com into our country so that we don't end up having mass bombings and such. We already have enough criminals why do we want to deal with more? God can't fix things like this, I guess, so we have to do it ourself and if that means limiting and screening people before they come to the US to live well then we will do that. You can live in God's universe but soon or later you will have to come to reality.

Hey sweet. I just have to mention that you are one of the few people that bring of national security as a concern. Although I think that is something of concern, I find it interesting how rarely I see that mentioned when I see conversations about illegal immigration.
Thanks for participating in this discussion.

They are brave people that decided they will not live under the government they have and will come to USA looking for democracy. People forget that most illegals are here because the country they come from does not have a democratic government or that government is corrupt.

How would you like it if you knew someone who lived in a foreign land that was ruled by an evil dictator and this friend of yours opposed the government and then in the future has to flee to the United States? Now let us see your friend apply at the American consulate and then told, "sorry you cannot get in. We have too many illegal aliens and we have to shut the legitimate ones out" even though at other times they would be a legitimate refuge.
You have to understand that there are lots of people who would have been allowed into United States, but the United States is narrowing the allowable entrants, so now you have to be related to someone living here or have a skill no one else has. Whereas before they allowed people in for more reasons. So illegal aliens are not taking the jobs from Americans, they are in fact preventing legal aliens from living there.
Had the illegals gone the legal route, there would not be that problem. So do you suppose the doctor of that TV show should have said that illegal aliens should have the right to sue? I hope you are not in favor of illegal immigration are you?

I have mixed feeling about the suing issue. I do lean toward the side where maybe they shouldn't be allowed to sue (at least not for money). But if a person commits an illegal or negiligent act against any person they should be held accountable. If not by being sued for money then by some type of legal action.
I don't agree with the assumption that the illegal allien's life is less worthy of expert care than a person who is a citizen. All lives are equally important.
I hope you are not in favor of illegal immigration are you? I wouldn't say that I am "in favor" of it.
but I am sympathetic to those in desperate situations that would cause them to risk their lives to come over illegally.
That being said. I do realize there are (as another poster mentioned) those who "come over to work the system". I don't agree with that.
But of course seperating those who are truly desperate and those who are just taking advantage of the system is an impossible task.

It is the same thing that the pilgrims thought about the Native Nations here in America. If they are not exactly like us, they must be inferior. If they don't believe in our g-d, they are sinners and will go to hell. If they are not our skin color, they must be less intelligent. Since they don't speak English, they must be stupid.Ans since they have to sneak in, they must be criminals and not worth helping. They are just people who want a better life. And they are doing the no paying , worse jobs that most people that don't want them here would Never do.The intern was thinking out loud and I am glad because now everyone knows how she feels and we can boycott her.She has the wrong attitude and now everyone knows it.

That even better. it will be easier to boycott an established doctor than waiting for an intern to become a doctor.I agree. It is good to see t.v. shows and movies that make you think.

It was actually the doctor saying it to the student. I didn't get to watch the entire movie from start to finish, but there were more things that were going on in the mistreatment of the illegals.
It was an intersting movie. It was probably a made for cable movie. But I do enjoy movies that make you think.

They aren't less humans but are treated differently because they did break the law. This country does treat people differently if they break the law. Legally illegal aliens can't sue because they aren't even allowed to be in the country without proper passport and IDs.

I can sort of undertand why they can't sue, I guess.
Can they press criminal charges?
Just curious. I thought you might know the anwer to that.

Hi miamilady! That is horrible! I believe that we are all God's children and whatever our status are or whatever color we have, nobody deserved to be treated that way. We should treat others the way we want to be treated. Anyway, we still have the law of nature. Whatever you have done to your brother, it will come back to you a hundredfold. However, it is alright to allow medical students to have contact with their patients but with strict supervision with the doctor and that doctor should not be saying those kind of things or even thinking about it. He might be teaching the med students to be good doctors but he is not teaching them to be good people which is what matters most. Take care and have a nice day. Oh, this is just my thoughts and I don't want to get involved in a heated argument too. hehe..Have a nice day and take care.

Illegal alliens are not less than human. They deserve the same rights as every other human being. I do not condone them coming here illegally but I also don't think that gives us the right to treat them badly. I always believe in treating people like I want to be treated. Whether they are illegal alliens are not.

Well, as they say, we live in a very cruel world. And the most cruel of all the creature in the animal kingdom is of course the ones belonging at the top of the food chain. Dog-eat-dog world. Humans has this immense capability for hurting their fellow human beings. Just look at the world around us and all the evidences are quite present. We don't have to go details to discuss how a lot of humans are inhumane to their fellow beings.
But of course, there are always 2 sides to a coin. While we have the capability to hurt our fellows, we could excel in being kind to others. Stories are also abounding of how great we are in caring for others.
At the end of the story, everything just revolves in our own hands. People can be good or bad, or in between.

I actually was going to start the discussion with "We are all God's creatures" but then I wasn't sure if that was right...I clearly don't know the Bible as well as you, but I think most understood the point I was trying to make.

Well, the point is, God didn't say, if you walk into another country, you are committing a crime, God said, if you kill someone you are committing a crime! There is a difference between these two "crimes"!
And another is, it's not that actual citizens can't get work, it's that they don't want to work!
There are so many jobs out there to do,but no one else will do them! I know, I am an employer,!
The main culprit in this is the government! They are allowing big businesses, and other employers to get away paying these people lower wages, so they can make more money for themselves, and the federal government should give them a big fine, but they ;make no effort!
The federal government doesn't want to spend any money for this illegal immigrant issue, because they are too busy putting the money in their "back pockets", Believe me I know how government works, with their budget allotment!
The reason they are coming over here is because we are allowing them!

Let's look at legal immigration for a minute. There are many slots filled by yellow and brown people that are for filling jobs that Americans can't be found to do - many of them computer programming. These yellow and brown people get bumped to the front.
There are many slots of legal immigration that go unfilled each year. Thousands of legal slots that don't have a person to fill them. After all, there just aren't that many Norwegians and Swedes that want to leave their countries.
So you would think these 'white' slots would be filled by some brown people and yellow people and black people? No way! The quota system for immigration exists so that white peoples always get most slots and if they don't fill all the slots, too bad....no more will be alloted for darker skinned people. It's the law!
Ask those who work in hiring positions in US corporations and they will readily tell you about these quotas and how they are skewed toward white and light skin color.
I'll say it plain -- the legal immigration system is racist. From the times of the Puritans this country has been racist. When those who try to immigrate here and spend years trying, only to be denied over and over call the system racist, they are correct. Legal immigration is racist because our laws are.

Well Miami,
What happens to "citizens" that break laws? Do they get a break? I dont think so much that people have a problem with Immigrants, its the Illegal part that upsets most. I know thats what upsets me most. They work here, when actual citizens cant get work, they get tax breaks from the Fed Gov when actual citizens have to pay taxes or be fined or jailed if they dont. They are opening businesses and employing only illegal immigrants to work in them. Thats enough to upset anyone really.
Im not saying they are less human or have less rights, well ok they do have less rights, or should have. They are in this country illegally, where are the rights in that? Rights shouldnt be given to those who dont respect the laws or the rules like everyone else has to do.
No argument here! Lol Just my opinion! ;)

Sorry, I'm in a rush to get out the door to go somewhere so I haven't even read your whole reply yet. I will get back to it I promise.
And without getting into an argument. I just want to say that my response to your first two sentences...
citizens that break the law, go to jail, get free room and board and free medical care.
Okay, so it's not the ritz but you know what I mean.
I know some folks would debate the rights and or treatement of those in our prison system. Some will say our prisoners are treated to well, some will say they are mistreated. I won't get into that debate.
Just sharing what popped into my head when I read your first two lines.
Again, as I said. I will get back to this discussion later.
But...I won't argue and I won't "flame"
I'm trying to behave while bringing up this very controversial topic. Wish me luck!
That movie is still on...I guess this topic is an underlying theme in it. Unfortately, I have to go out so I wont be able to watch it to the end.
Maybe that's a good think actualy. I take these things to heart sometimes.
Take care.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I think I sort of took your discussion to another level really. lol Im anti-illegal alien/immigrant, whatever you want to call it. You want to be here in this country, then do what it takes to be here and live like natural born citizens, way too may illegal immigrants are here working, theres no excuse for that.
I think people should be treated with respect, regardless of race or nationality, IF they give respect. What your talking about here, the statement that was made, was inappropriate. Seemed like they were saying they wouldnt have been able to allow the student to learn on an actual citizen. Thats not right. I apologise for turning it around lol But I still would like to hear what else you have to say Miami. :)

In my state Pye, the jobs the illegal immigrants are getting are not crappy jobs, they are high paying factory jobs. Our state is actually being sued, or consideration is taking place, by the Fed Gov for aiding and abeding illegal immigrants. Our own Governor aided in hiding the illegal immigrants from a data base that lists all the workers and their status to live and work in the US. So not ALL are getting crappy farm jobs. Ive read articles where he is supporting laws to protect illegal immigrants....HUH? Protect someone that snuck over and doesnt want to abide by the laws? That doesnt make sense to me, no matter how you coat it.
Upstate in the city where my husband goes to race horses, there are many illegal immigrants paddocking horses for trainers, getting the horses ready and geared up to race, this gets them possibly $75 per horse. Many of the trainers in that area have hired on illegal immigrants and they earn well over $300 per week, more than the average Joe would make. Would you like to recieve $300 a week TAX FREE? I would! And the ones that are working here legally, they get a Fed Tax break, how is that?
I totally see your point, and that may be the case in some areas, but not where I live. Its a huge problem here and its hurting the natural born citizens of this state.

That's totally uncalled for. I have some really strong opinions about the illegal alien situation, but when someone is injured and needs stitches or something, it's not the time to bring up that issue, and absolutely WRONG to give lesser care. The medical profession is simply supposed to serve those who come in need, regardless.
I do however think we have a HUGE problem with illegal immigration.

I believe that we are all God's children. I also believe that aliens should enter our country legally. My father immigrated from Italy in 1929 with his mother and 2 sisters. They entered legally and became U.S. citizens. It may be harder now to become a citizen or to get a green card but I do not believe in breaking the law.

A while ago I saw this program where they asked people what they thought about foreigners and most would rather they go away. Then they asked this older woman and she started talking negatively about them, until she suddenly remembered that a foreigner had been nice to some handicapped relative of hers, so then, with tears in her eyes she had to admit that they were not so bad after all!

good morning, my feelings on this are humans are humans irregardless of their origins, or religious beliefs, and the fact that other people feel that it is not only OK to sit in judgment of others, and feel that it is OK to subject others to any and all indignity's and abuses because they may be different from us, is the hight of mans in humanity to man.
We are not God and do not have the right to experiment/ use others for our own benefit, this was described as "atrocities" when the Nazi's did it during the second world war, when peoples were considered sub human and killed or used as slaves or medically experimented upon by sadistic perverted power hungry savages, and it appears that there are still several persons who would qualify for that title walking around and preaching their sick and deranged ideas today

I would not necessarily say that are not any more deserving of things. We are all human beings. However the problem comes up when the people who are here illegally take up space in medical and schools etc. Our state and local governments cannot afford this. It is up to the governments to figure out a way to make the lives of their people better so that these unfortunate people will not have to come to this country illegally.

I don't think anyone is less deserving of basic human rights however I do think that if you live in a country you should work on making it the best country you can. My ancestors fought, along with hundreds of others, to make the US what it is today and it is annoying that ppl expect to come here (illegally) and get those same freedoms handed to them. I realize that their countries may be in terrible shape but that is where they should be fighting to make them better.

Of course no one is less of a person than anyone else. However, I am against allowing illegal aliens work and be here without going through the proper channels to become legal.
Still, they are as human as anyone else and, despite the fact that I, personally, don't like the fact that they are here illegally, I would never think less of them nor want them treated in any less of way than anyone else.
