Do you play in football pools?

Last night we were out to dinner at a local bar and they were having a football pool for today's game. I don't keep up with football - or even watch the games, but I went ahead and played. I did get good numbers though - 0 and 3. So when the quarter ends in 0 and 3 (I don't remember which team has which number) then I win!!! Now I have to pay attention to the game... Do you play the football pools? If so, what kind do you play? My father used to run one where you paid a dollar to guess all the winners. The one with the most right won - he had 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Hi Dawn, My hubby would like to find one, we dont really know that many people around here. He did find like a charity pool he got into. They gave him a card with 3 out of the 6 teams who play and depending on the score, predertimined by the lowest score and the highest score, is who wins. He can win either way, as long as the teams they gave him have accumulated a certain amount of points and yards. I think! LOL I dont really know, its something like that. He bought it from a HS kid for some charity. So that was worth it in itself. He hasnt won any money off of it, but we still have like 13 weeks of games. Still time! I watch with him, I get into it and we have a blast on Monday nights. That is if Im not PMS'ing.....LMAO...I will make fun and he gets annoyed if its his team Im making fun of. *big cheesy grin* Bay xx

I am so not into football. When I'm in a pool - which isn't often - I have to ask my sister or someone what all the scores were and stuff. Even the super bowl, I think I've watched 2 of them... Did you just recently move? Is that why you don't know many people? Usually someone at work would have one, but your hubby woulda heard about it by now... He can always start one, they aren't that hard to do.

Well, I hope he wins on that one, although it was still for a good cause :)

Well, we did, but its just his job. Its not a traditional job, he works in a barn, trains race horses and they bet between themselves, but no one has started any kind of pool. Ive asked them why no one has, and he just looks upside my head like Im loony. They dont really have time for that I guess. LOL I dont work, I could do it maybe. Too late this year, he bought that ticket from Charity Mania, its actually for a church, sorry not a HS kid like I thought. I thought it was a HS charity thing.

Hi Reinydawn, Football pools are a fun way for someone who does not follow football to get a chance to win. I play these a lot. For the Super bowl, we set up a $1000.00 board with payoff every quarter. This one is a lot of fun because of the mixture of people playing on this board. We seldom have any problem selling out the board. There is at least one winner, depending how long between Team scores. As a woman who does not follow football, I would say that this type of betting gives you an equal odd to be a winner even with the pros. Good luck. Happy posting..

Exactly! There's no skill involved for this. Usually when I play, I end up with numbers like 8 and 2. At least today I had a fighting chance with 0 and 3. I don't follow football at all, but I do know enough about it to have a semi-decent conversation with someone about the game....

Blank box pools such as you describe are the only ballgame betting I do. I don't watch sports and am totally clueless about the teams, so this type of pool give me an even chance with the addicts lol. I am lucky (?) enough to have two fanatics in the family so I don't have to watch any game, I can just ask the next morning and they'll know the winners and scores.

Yeah, I have to check the quarterly scores for the game today - apparently the Redskins lost??? All I'm worried about is if the scores were 0 and 3 at the end of any quarter. I still have to check also to see which team had which number... I do also do a pool for the March Madness (college basketball) but I have no clue with those teams either. I usually pick them by the sound of the name, location (I have to pick Conn because my bother lives there, that kinda thing). I never do very well - even thouhg I kinda pay attention to their standings. My son saw my picks once and told me "Mom, you gotta let me help you do this, you're going to lose" Well, I did, but it's nice to have that to take our minds off the daily grind!!!
