Do you take night walks?

I just came back for a walk with my baby. He's getting a molar in (he's already got eight teeth at ten months) and I decided to add walking into the nightime sleepy ritual. We live on a well fortified base so its safe. There's something about the night. Its just short of chilly out - perfect weather in my eyes. The stars are out in abundance as is an air of expectancy, wonder and possibilities that always seems to mingle with the night air. I love night, I feel more alive, more me, more energetic. I know I've written of my love of night before - in one of my discussions and in response to one of fellow mylotters posts. Not of walking in the night though - I think. I used to walk with friends in the night hours, to Edward's Ferry - a deep, dark forest near a river and down to Harper's Ferry - an old haunted civil war town - and just any parks or graveyards nearby. What about you - do you enjoy the night air and walking out into it? Progamer wrote of parallel worlds tonight or yesterday and to me - if its possible to walk into one, it seems a night like this one would be perfect for it. Yes, I've read one too many fantasy or sci-fi novels - lol. My favourite stories are the ones that start out in our time, and place and go into magical realms or other realities.

Night Life - City of Bangkok at night. Look how beautiful and colorful it is. Everything comes alive in the night.
That sounds really nice Artemis. Many people where I live take walks or do their jogging at night. I think its much more peaceful and serene. Its most comforting than a bright hot sun to be walking in, although that feels good to if the mood is right. hehe I dont walk so much as when I was a teen ager. We used to stroll around the town we lived in in groups laughing and having a really good time. Doing things we probably shouldnt have but hey we were teen agers, thats what you do. lol I think cities are more beautiful all lit up because of the dark sky, and much more colorful. Like the pic I attached of Bangkok, Id love to take a night stroll through those streets. Bay xx

Cities are definitely more beautiful at night. I haven't liked going out during the day lately with my migraines. I'm nursing so I can't do anything about them - I can't even curl up in the dark and sleep - with a baby.

Its cold now, but it seems the sun is brighter in Albuquerque which is sometimes a trigger for migraines too along with peanuts, air pressure change, strong scents, hormones and fluorescent lights. Mine seem to getting worse and more frequent. I need to wean the baby very soon. I don't wish migraines on anyone, but sometimes its nice when someone knows where you're coming from.

Aww bless your heart! Ive had them and they suck big time. Thats all you want to do is curl up in the dark with complete silence, and even then silence can be too much dealing with a migraine. Also its been so hot, no one wants to deal with a heat stroke. Thank goodness its starting to cool off and act like Fall around here. lol Bay xx

I go for walks at night, but usually it is going some place, not for the shear joy of walking. Every second Wednesday night, we have choir practice in the Fall and Spring, and when it starts to snow, I will walk rather than get a ride. No, I do not like the snow, I just like walking. Besides in the evening, when it is icy, it does not seem as dangerous as during the day when I can see the ice and snow. However there are no deep woods near where I live and I would not go into any even if we lived near them. There are too many evil people in this world so I would stick to somewhere where I can be seen if some guy jumps out. As for getting science fiction and fantasy, I do have a good imagination, but I get my ideas for stories from my dreams not by enjoying the night air.

Thats something we have in common - I get many ideas from dreams as well.

Oh I think thats great for the baby and you. It surely will make the baby sleep well. Just make sure to bundle the little one up. Its getting rather chilly out there. And please be careful if your walking alone. You never know what is lurking!

Thank you for your words, TerryZ. I do bundle him -and I am careful - although I live on a very well fortified Air Force Base that has regular patrols driving around, is well lit and other moms walk their kids and babies at night too. :)

I used to be a lover of night life, but I had to give up drinking after developing a problem, and can no longer drink. I can no longer smoke comfortably either. Subsequently, I became highly diurnal, rather than nocturnal. Result being that I no longer like the night and darkness, in fact avoid them. That said, I'm still quite nocturnal insofar as I tend to go to bed quite late. But I don't like being out at night. That's not to say that I don't go out at night, because I do, but I don't enjoy it.

I guess I'm a little confused. I meant taking walks not going out and partying. Like you, I don't party either, or drink or smoke. Only I just never started. I do appreciate your post and your candor. Have fun mylotting.

Oops, I went a bit off track. I have to say though that I don't like walking at night. It must be that having been cured of the party lifestyle, I acquired a distaste for the darkness in general. I don't enjoy night walks. That does not mean, however, that I don't take them, because I do to please friends and so on who like to stroll around at night. I am a great walker, but I like to walk by day, not by night. I should have made that alot clearer. Sorry, Artemis...:o)

It's nice that you walk with your baby, but it may not be good for his health. Since it is getting colder outside, your baby is likely to develop a cold. And it could lead to something worse, as well as him getting other kids sick that he's around. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being rude, just showing concern for you and your child!

He hasn't been sick at all - I bundle him up. You can't isolate kids totally. His dad and I are rarely sick and it was the same when we were little. Its kind of like always using that germ free stuff for your hands - actually can make you sicker - your body doesn't develop immunities.. Funny how people are so careful and get colds once or twice a year. While my husband and I get cold every few years. I'm due for one in fact - and since we'll be moving - the usual trigger for me - I may get one. He's almost a year too. I see lotsov of parents out with their kids - even tonight. You aren't being rude at all, just being concerned. However - did you want to participate in the discussion? Do you take night walks?

Oh and I'm 37 and have taken my share of anatomay and physiology classes and will soon be taking more. We learned a lot about the immune system and myths and such. Anyway, glad to meet you - I'll check out your discussions.

LOL Artemis, I know this has nothing to do with your discussion, but the PM you sent me earlier and the age your profile says you are, had me thinking you were just blind......LOL I know its terrible of me but I had to confess!! Your right about the immune system and having to allow it to be exposed so it will build up a defense. Thats the whole reason behind immunization shots. I just finished a Medical Billing course and had to learn about the bodys immune system as well as its many organ systems. Very interesting stuff! Bay xx

Yes, I love walking at night and feel very fortunate to be able to do that in the small rural town we live in. There are under 1,000 residents here and we feel quite safe any time of the night or day. We used to live in Winnipeg and would not be OK with going out alone at night. Like most large cities there are higher crime rates in the inner city...not as much in the suburbs...but there are risks. So yes, I agree with you the 'between times' where there is a feeling that a portal could open to other realms holds a lot of appeal for me to. So we are into that 'now you see me now you don't' way of thinking....maybe I'll see you there sometime!LOl

I only take night walks when I am on holiday in another country where I feel safe, I am currently on holiday in Rhodes and every night I walk without worrying about being hurt, mugged or attacked, but in my own country the UK I wouldn't ever walk out at night, even for a bloke, for fear of being robbed, it it not safe in the streets, which is a great shame, plus it is very cold and dark at night especially with the winter on its way.

I like cold and dark - well maybe the edge of cold. I guess you don't live in the city if its dark. I live in the midst of a city with a high crime rate, but I'm on base. How are you enjoying your holiday Wolfie?

When it's not pissing down with reain or very windy I love to take evening strolls. I think it is very r9omantic looking at the night sky and it helps to clear the clutter out of my very busy mind. If the weather is good I also like to do Tai Ji out in the nightly calm. Mind you New York is not very calm where I am but there is a great big park. In Enbgland when I go back it will be a lot quieter and my parents live in the countryside so I will be more relaxed.

I think its a great thing to add to your evening - and healthy. I like the idea of beginning and ending the day with excercise. And of course dancing your way through the rest of the day!

Yes I do actually. Why wife and I live in the mountains in a remote cabin. We love to take a walk under the stars. We get to see more different animals than we would see in the day as well. Our favorite is to take a night walk in the winter when there is fresh snow on the ground and the moon is full. The moon light reflecting against the sky really lights the mountain up and it's truly beautiful.

Quiethorse, sounds like you live in heavan. I really think its a luxury to be able to walk any time of day - and with you living in a place thats so beautiful - and open to the stars - is a definite luxury.
