I just made a pot... it brings back memories of camping when the kids were little. We could only afford a mattress for the station wagon and a camp stove, but we had fun!
The soup is made from browned ground beef, 2 cans of diced potatoes, 1 can of mixed vegetables, 1 package of onion soup mix, some dried herbs and dried minced garlic, and a couple cans of water.
It only needs to simmer for about an hour to blend the flavors, and its surprisingly good. I've even made it with diced ham, hot dogs or polish sausages!
Now I need to email the kids and make them all nostalgic!

Sounds like a really good hamburger soup. I'm trying to get my husband to buy more hamburger. I don't buy meat because with only a part-time job, I can't afford it. So he does. But hamburger, and beef in general, has gone up so much that he buys cubed steak or nothing depending on the prices. So I would really like to try this soup. But it might be Aldis Soup. I really like their cans of mixed vegetables. They have all kinds of veggies, even lima beans. With diced ham, that sounds good, too. Not sure about hot dogs, but a lot of things are great with polish sausages.
My friend makes polish sausages with pineapple chunks. Man is that good! Thanks for the ideas and take care (hope this doesn't get deleted, we're not supposed to do recipes on here anymore which I think they should reconsider or explain the problem with it and tell us what our limits on recipes are).

That's the best kind of soup, made from everything. I like soup made from leftovers, esp. bones.
The pineapple and polish sausages, she browned her polish sausages and put lots of cans of pineapple chunks in, it was almost like a soup.
I like pineapple in lots of things. Like with tuna fish. But I can only have pineapple once a week, more than that, I get cole sores. My brother can't eat it at all or he gets them. Take care and have fun with all your soups.

I don't see recipes... just lists of ingredients! All of this is up to the cook, instead of being carved in stone with measurements. We're just giving each other ideas as to all the ways you can go, once you put that pot on the stove, and the combinations are endless!
I did the hotdogs once to use up the rest of the food we took with us, and the kids loved it... it sure got them to eat more vegetables, and that is always a plus!
I also make corned-beef-and-cabbage soup, using the canned corned beef and chopping it up. Come to think of it, I've made soup from everything!

That sounds so good. When we first went camping we couldn't even afford an air mattress. We just used sleeping bags in the back of our pick-up truck. We cooked over the campfire. Then we started buying one camping piece at a time. First the stove then the tent. We would make soup at night while sitting around the fire and then warm it up in the morning when it was so cold in the winter months. I loved camping like that.

That was also our introduction to ramen noodles... a can of white-meat chicken and some sliced green onions tossed in at the end...
We had a pot and a skillet, and a big pkg of paper plates. I'm thinking about doing that at home a few days a week... it would sure cut down
on the work load!LOL!

Its really simple and good. I love to cook, and there are days when I start from scratch, with simmering stew meat and chopping vegetables, and that is some truly fine soup. And homemade bread to go with it. It's also the best potpourri... the house smells wonderful! The expressions when people come through the door are priceless... everyone stops and just inhales for a bit. This is the best of all comfort foods for our family.

That sounds like a great easy to make soup for camping. Especially since even in the summer time it can get a little chilly when you're camping out... always nice to have a little soup in the evening around the camp fire. I'm gonna have to make a note of that for the day some friends and I finally get to go camping together.
