Please, please, PLEASE, whether you're for or against the SCHIP's program, please watch tonight's (Monday) Countdown With Keith Olbermann on MSNBC! It's rerun at 12:00 midnight for those of you in the EST zone and there's still time for those of you on the West Coast. Keith has the parents of the little boy who gave the Democratic Response concerning the SCHIP's program, you know, the family the right has been attacking ever since to the point of telling outright lies and giving out their home address online which has resulted in death-threats against the parents and the kids! The family who has been accused of abusing the system and getting health care for the kids undeservedly, the ones about whom lies were told concerning their attendance at an "expensive private school". Please, watch this interview with the parents and decide for yourself whom and what you choose to believe about this family and about this health care program for kids. Please, take a few minutes out of your day and watch this for a different perspective from what you may have heard from the Limbaughs of the world. Did I forget to say "Please"? Then, let's discuss it some more!

The Democratics and the Meida are reporting that President Bush is anti Children because he veto the expansion of the bill ($35Billion increase. Both children that the Democratics have use to gain public sympaty have been covered by the SCHIP program and would be covered under the renewal of the program that President Bush proposed and even to expand it by $5 Billion. Right now Wisconsin and Minnesota and several other states use SCHIP money to cover Adults. Thie is an attempt to get socialized medicine in the US. One etimate of the people who would be covered would give up their private health insurance to be covered by SCHIP.
Going after the spokesperson is wrong, but if they are going to speak out for the Democratics then they should have to answer the tough questions. Show thier tax return, (many private schools will ahve a tax exempt foundation that will allow you to pay the fundation and have your shildren receive a "scholarship", If they were injured in a car accident why did the other drivers insurance co. pay? How well is the fathers business doing. They are living a lifestyle that is way above thier reported income. Unless they have many deductions such a life style would triger an IRZS Audit.

They didn't start going to the private school until AFTER the accident and they were chosen to receive the scholarship due to their injuries and subsequent long and difficult recoveries. I'm not sure of the details of the car accident, I don't know if there was another car involved or whose fault it was. I guess all I know about the accident is that neither of the kids were driving so I guess that means it wasn't their fault. Of course, Good ole Rush wll probably find a way to explain to me in his unimitable condescending fashion how they indeed were to blame, perhaps they were in the car going to somewhere they didn't need to go, who knows, so I guess I'd better take back that last statement, I'm sure it must have been their fault! Anyway, if indeed there was another driver who was at fault in the accident it depends on what coverage both parties had how much the other driver's insurance would pay of their medical bills. I do know something about that since my husband was in a very bad crash two years ago which was no fault of his at all and believe me, although there were two other vehicles involved, both sharing some of the blame, with my husband, according to the investigating police officer being a "totally innocent victim" as he was at a standstill waiting to turn into the parking lot where he works; we ended up paying quite a bit of his medical bills ourselves, some of which was paid by our auto insurance company, part paid by our own health insurance and several thousand which we paid out of our own pockets. He was taken by medical helicopter to the hospital and spent less than twenty four hours in the hospital and the total hospital bill was over $200,000. That doesn't include the cost of subsequent tests he had to have, medication and physical therapy and frequent chiropractic visits. He'll need to be treated for his injuries for the rest of his life as he had nerve damage to his neck and other back and neck injuries. I'm not sure I understand what their lifestyle that is way above their means is. They bought the house some years ago and did the renovations themselves. I have close friends that did just that, paid a relatively small amount for their home and added on and remodeled and it's now an absolutely gorgeous home! Shame on them, they don't have a six-figure income so how DARE they live in a decent home! Anyway, I can tell you that if this family were to liquidate all their assets and live on the streets for the rest of their lives they would still need several lifetimes to personally pay for over a month in the ICU for two children, multiple surgeries, if I'm not mistaken, for both - the boy for sure - and ongoing physical therapy and other special care as they both had to learn how to walk, talk and feed themselves all over again. I can see how some people who follow Rush's beliefs would feel that it would have been far better if these two kids would have been left to die, but SORRY, I'm not one of them!

Yes that is sad. (See I'm no demon ;p)
And SCHIP and other safety nets(medicaid, federal grants through the Soc Sec., etc) should be reasonably adjusted if needed. If people are injured or in jeopardy assistance is currently available and can be accessed if they cannot afford treatment. Not only that I don't see doctors letting people die out like that either, just doesn't look right (I'll fore go Hippocrates). If its an immediate emergency you are treated, no questions asked. Though I've seen rare cases where this isn't the case, for the most part people get treatment and emergency care because the profession must render aid.
Annie thanks for at least bringing that case to my attention. Let me make it clear, no one wants Schip to go down. I have a problem of it being a political game (heck what isn't nowadays). These are people's lives we are talking about. And a final thing. I'm still looking over the calculations for the proposed program (yea, I know. its time for a vacation. no sane person would read the legalese that known as "bill" ;p).
Now if anything remarkable comes up, I'll post it. For right now though, both sides should get to work on a real compromise. One wants 5, the other wants 30. Just do 15 -_-. That shouldn't be hard since the government is pretty spend crazy anyways (dry sarcasm)

I don't know a whole lot about the SCHIP program, anniepa, but from what I've heard it sounds like it would be very good for the children. I do not have cable TV so I cannot watch the show, but what is important is that the will of the people is not being carried out. When the President vetoed passage of that bill it hurt the children who could least afford to be hurt. I hear so many outright lies and downright deceptive statements each and every day on Conservative talk radio, and these people are the ones who are working against the poor and less fortunate in our society. They are consumed by greed and don't feel that the poor should be entitled to anything. They are going against every principle that this nation was founded upon.
