My daughter had just gotten out of the shower last night around 9pm. I bought some stuff for her head 'cause she said it itched( I had just checked her head 2 days before and all I seen was dandruff). So I bought scalpicin. But last night I noticed all these little blobs on the hair shaft and even seen two bugs crawling. I took the day off today and bought a head lice shampoo. I put it onto her head like the directions showed and waited 15 minutes then had her rinse. As I was combing I noticed 2 bugs that were still alive!! I read online that mayonaise works better so I am trying that now. Anyone have any suggestions? I am so upset about this.

Hey believe me I know what you're going through I've had them twice once my daughter brought them home form the babysitter and the second time my roommates kids caught them in school. the important thing is combing all the nits and eggs out when you're through with the treatment . You also need to buy the spray that kills them on furniture and bedding, also vacuum , and wash all clothing worn and towels in hot water. Good Luck they are hard to get rid of.

Mayonaisse works great and it's cheaper than using lice shampoo. I recommend putting it in her hair, wrapping it up in a grocery bag and then a towel and leaving it in overnight. Or, doing that and leaving it in for a few hours during the day should do the trick as well. Have you taken care of all her stuff yet and checked everyone else in the house? If not, I suggest doing that right away or the lice will keep coming back. You need to immediately wash all bedding and clothing that your daughter's been in contact with the last few days in HOT water. Anything that can't be washed (like stuffed animals) needs to be tied in plastic bags (like a garbage bag) for 2 weeks. You also want to vacuum all furniture and carpets, as well as disinfect combs and brushes (soaking in boiled water will do the trick). There's really no need to be upset. Lice can be a huge pain, but it happens, especially with grade-school children. Be sure to also let the school nurse know that your daughter has lice, so they can help limit the spread of it.

there is a comb you can buy chemical free. It sends a shock to the critters and not you child. My friend who has 4 girls swears by it. She said one of them always seem to contact it. As well as the vinigar mentioned by another. My mother always rinsed out hair with vinigar. It really seemed to help.

My mother brought this comb to me today. It did not work well in my daughters hair. But after hours and hours of combing I think we just maybe got rid of them.

That is awfull.I'm glad that they are gone how misreable for your little girl. Did it take the little nits out too? By the way, I heard from someone at church that if you have a wooden headboard they can hide in it. I don't know how true this is since I thought the bugs had to be on a host to live. Also, I've been told to treat stuffed animals and bedding by putting them in an airtight container like a trash bag for two weeks then wash. I know that the process of elimination is agrueling process but at least the critters are gone. Have her make sure she doesn't place her coat by other coats at school too. This is one of our many joys of parenting.

Wow! How can the kids not hang their coats up next to others in school? I never even thought of that! As far as the headboard thing I am sure that you are correct, Lice need a host (human host) to survive. I read that they cannot survive after 20 minutes without a host. Nits or the eggs can though

You know,I got head lice almost the whole time I was pregnant from my step-daughter,of course threw no fault of her own. My mom was 80 years old and she told me the best way to get rid of lice was Vinagar, appl vingar to be exact,it smells really bad but it does work, and make sure and throw everything into the dryer she has been in contact with, lice die in heat, hope this helps and let me know what happens.

I have 2 daughters and both were sent home with head lice just 2 weeks ago. And yes I was also told that mayo works great. I personally have never tried it to be honest with you. I was able to get rid of them using the shampoo. Please don't forget to vacuum the floors and beds. And wash all of the bedding in HOT water. And put all of the stuffed animals in a plastic bag for 2 weeks. Don't be upset hun this happens its nothing to be ashamed of. And maybe you should let her teacher know so they can check the other students so they don't keep spreading.

when you take the compartment off you first have to put the solution to kill them and then wash it with warm water ok and then you can use it for another time

When I worked in a daycare this happened every once in a while. There are kits that come with a solution and a comb that will pull the bugs out. When you have here taken care of make sure you clean everywhere her head has been. Her bed, car seats, toys she plays with and so on. Otherwise it will just keep comming back. Lice is fairly common but if you buy a good kit it will be easy to get rid of. Good luck and dont let it get you down.

When we had foster kids we battled this problem on a regular basis. We found out that plain white vinegar worked great. We bought several jugs and kept it in the house. When we got a kid that had lice, we got them in the bathroom, poured vinegar on their head and worked it in. Then we wrapped a big towel around their head and they had to keep it on for 20-30 minutes. After that, we went back and rinsed it out. We often did it twice (using a clean towel the second time) and then sat them down and combed it out with the little lice comb. It worked like a charm. After we went through it with the comb and were sure there were no more they could go shampoo their hair with regular shampoo. You also need to strip her bed and wash it all and you can add vinegar to the laundry...we did. I also made up a spray bottle of the vinegar and sprayed down the furniture and the car seats. I will warn you that the stuff smells horrible and I would suggest giving anyone your using this on something to put over their nose and mouth to help block the fumes and open the windows. It smells terrible but it works great...at least it always did for us. I hope this helps. !!HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

A friend of the family 2 daughters had head lice b4. And although i thought her girls were too young she dyed their hair. It instantly got rid of the lice. It jus all depends on what extreme you are willing to go to to get rid of them. I can remember having them when i was younger and mom doing the lice shampoo treatments and than after the treatments while our hair was still wet she would go through small sections of our hair with a metal lice comb to get the bugs out that lived. but keep in mind that you will need to shampoo your daughters hair with the shampoo a few times over the next few days as the shampoo does not kill the eggs and you need to kill them as soon as they hatch to eliminate even more reproduction

No need to fear! There is help available! Visit www.licesolutions.org to learn true information about head lice. The 3 things that make the most difference are having a good lice comb (I recommend the Terminator), checking closest contacts (because head lice spread by head to head or hair to hair contact), and taking the time to remove everything from the head the first time. Head lice can't live off the human head for more than 24 hours and the nits need the warmth of the human head in order to incubate (much like a chicken sitting on an egg) so they aren't going to live in your house like most people think. Head lice have become immune to most over the counter products because of over exposure. Try a non toxic treatment that eats away at the bug, such as Nit Free, instead of a toxic product that goes after the bugs nervous system. Mayonnaise can help suffocate the bugs and it can make it easier to remove the nit's but keep in mind that no product on the market kills the nits and they must be manually removed. It takes a nit 7-10 days to hatch and another 7-10 days to become an adult bug so keep checking for the next 3 weeks. Regular comb-outs with a good lice comb should be incorporated into your weekly schedule. If every parent had a good lice comb and used it twice a week, head lice would never be a problem because the bugs would be found before they had a chance to lay many eggs and pass to friends and family. Remember when checking for contacts it's not only where your child got head lice from but who she gave them to along the way. You as a mother should be checked as well because all good moms come in contact with their children. Good luck in your fight!!
