We migrated to America and now living in Virginia. Lots to do here, friendly and safe neighborhood, great schooling and education, but this all depends on where you migrate to. Not all areas in Washington DC are safe but if you ask those on mylot, they will be sure to tell you which area is good and which isnt. Great job opportunities too and even though we have only been here a year, we are loving our new life here, especially my son - I haven't seen him this happy!

We moved from Samoa (Pacific Islands) and had to go to New Zealand for the final interview and visa process. In all it took us 4 months for all the paperwork to be completed, flying to NZ to interview and more paperwork before flying to USA. THen we had to wait another month before we got our green cards. It cost us a lot for my son and I but worth it in the end.

America is a melting pot. What exactly do you want to know about how American's feel about it? About non American citizens moving to America to become citizens? Personally, if that's what you're asking this is how I feel. I think it's fine, because we are a melting pot and having people of all sorts of cultures and what not in some ways is what makes America... America. That is.. it's fine, so long as people go through the LEGAL channels, which I'm sure you'll do. And... I think it's import to learn about the place you're going to move before moving. Like, if you can't speak English, Learn it! even if you can't before you move here, take it up asap and learn enough to get by in the beginning. You know? I also don't see that as a problem. As far as safety. America was always thought of to be a pretty safe place until the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01... but I think we do our best.

thank you for the kind words. we are going through the correct channels. english wont be a problem. our english is far better than our home language. we are nearing 30 and the thought of starting over is scary, but rape and murder scares me more.

Well I wish you luck. I'm sure you'll have no problem once you get started and I'm sure you'll fit in perfectly after a while. Of course I'd say move to America and NOT Canada like the person over there is saying but you know...whichever you prefer :) I understand and starting over is very scary. You want to do what's best for your daughter and that's always important. Crucial things to look for, besides a job of course, would be to find good neighborhoods and schools. that way you'll know where you really want to settle.

I think the United States would be a wonderful place to start a new life, there is so many oppertunites here Living here I feel pretty safe even after 9/11. I don;t know much about Canada but I hear wonderful things about there as well, you could also visit both places and decided what would be best for you and your family

From what i hear about South Africa, I would not go there to live. I think America is a wonderful place. I am a Canadian and I would rather live there than here, but it is because of the cold winters and that our political system is such that those of a certain political party have to all vote for what their leaders say. Whereas in America, they can hold their own views. I think that there is a backlash against white people over in South America, I read of some discriminatory laws and I think when they ended the former system there, hey went too much the other way and well, sometimes you end something the cure is worse than the disease.

Sounds like California, but many crops in the U.S. use bees for pollination & the beekeepers here are many times on the move with their hives. There are 2 major problems with beekeeping in the U.S. One is a major die off of bees from some parasite or fungus - don't remember quite what - fungus I think. The second is the intrusion of the "africanized" bees or "killer bees" coming in from the south. We have them here in the Austin area & they are going north, interbreeding with the European bees we use for pollination.

i wouldnt know where to start. we are looking into going through a recruiting agency for beekeepers. probably places where there are huge eucalyptus plantations.

Hi Zorrogirl, I live in Mississippi in the United States. We have a very large beekeeping industry here. I have an uncle who was a beekeeper before he passed away a few years ago. They did have a severe impact to the colonies by being infected by those mites that attack honey bees but the colonization has built back up. I think you would love it in the United States. I think every state has its own individual attributes and assets. I guess I am kind of biased because I love living in Mississippi. You said something about racism in you country. Here in the U.S. there is still racism against different cultures but that will be the case every where you go. I am white and I have three daughters that are biracial. People say that Mississippi is a racist state but I have to disagree. Sure, you will run across people every now and then that are disgusted by the fact that I have biracial children, but I have never had anyone act violently towards me about it. And of course there will be crime every where you go, but I feel very safe where I live. I don't have to worry about my children when they are at school because I know what protection and security measures the school has in place. And the countryside is beautiful here. I don't live in the city, I live out in the country, so if it is city living you were wanting to know about I can't help you there. The country is so beautiful. I hope you decide on living in the U.S., it is a wonderful place to live. My best wishes to you and your family as you make you life-changing decisions about finding a safer place for your family to live and prosper.

you would hate it here. the biracial people have it the worst here. i get so mad when i see the race games in this country. they even call them brown people. thank you for the great info. i shall keep you posted on how the application goes.

I just wanted to let you know that me and my girls are praying everyday for your safety. My oldest read your discussion and she said, mom we have got to pray for those people. So we are doing just that. Hang in there. Maybe the process won't take two years, maybe it will be alot less.

Hi zorrogirl. I would suggest if you are in the beekeeping business, that you look at places in the rural midwestwhich is our farming belt or the south whith it's warmer climate, again, look at rural areas, they are generaly low crime, decent folks and agriculteraly oriented. Canada is nice too, I have a girlfriend in ontario and travele there regularly, a little easier to get in to, don't know about the bee keeping thing there either though, probaably not much diffrent thean the northern U.S. I imagine. Best of luck to you and welcome aboard! (by the way, your english is fine)

we will most probably be going throug a recruitment agency for apiculture. the problem with beekeeping is that you have to move the hives to different places, depending on whats in flower. i shall keep you posted. thank you.
