Do you go for "buy one, get one free" sales?

I know that when I see something that says "buy one, get one free," I usually jump at the opportunity. But then I wonder sometimes, is it really such a good deal? For things that I know we will use, it does seem like a wonderful way to save money, but for something that you don't really need in the first place, it's a bit of a waste of money. What sort of stuff are you willing to buy if you get another one free?

I always look at the sale close. Sometime thay put things on buy one get one free sales but then they charge a ton for the first item so it is a good deal but it isnt a great deal. I try to follow sales patterns so that I can tell if it is a good deal or not. Sometimes stores are tricky and we need to keep a good eye open.

Excellent points! It's definitely a good idea to keep track of the regular prices, so that you can see if they've jacked up the price on the first item and then offer the second one "free".

If it's something that I use, I always jump on the buy one get one free. If it's not somethign that I'm going to use in the next 2-3 months it's not worth it to use the space.

I will IF it's something I usually buy anyway. I won't do it just because it seems like a good deal. I like it when the deals are for food items or laundry detergent. I'd LOVE it if they would ever do a buy one,get one free on packs of diapers!

I was a pricing coordinator for a major department store chain. A BOGO is designed to get people in the store. But you are right your not getting a very good deal! The profit margin is still high for the store. The only time that a BOGO is really worth it is when they have them on items that are seasonal or clearance because at that time the store just wants to get rid of them and will pay the markdown just to get it out of the door. Also what store do sneaky is to offer a sale that is a percentage off with an additional percetage off. Like for example 40% + an additional 20% so many customer and store employees think this equal 60% off an item when in reality it is only like 52 percent.

If I am going to buy it anyway, I will buy the buy get one free offers. My grocery store has a lot of those type of offers on it's store brand and Kroger brand products. I do 'store up' on products when they are on sale.

If the sale is on something we need or use I will buy it. If it is something I would normally not purchase then I dont buy it. I also check and see if I am getting a good deal or not. Maybe it would be cheaper to buy the store brand then name brand on sale.

Thank you so much for the reminder! Yes, Safeway has Pom Wonderful brand pomegranate juice on 2 for 1 sale today and I must by all means go out and buy as much as we can find space for in the refrigerator. That stuff is like ambrosia, the nectar of the gods, but at $5 a glassful, it is not something I like to buy at full price.

The only thing with those is you have to see if you actually are saving any money. I was a Walgreens the other day to pick up som Ibeprofin and there was a buy one get one free sale for 100 capsule bottles for $11.99 then, right next to it, was a box of two 100 capsule bottles for $8.99. I can only imagine how many people jumped at the sale when, if you were actually looking, you could save $3. That and all of the fine print details with sales like that when multiple items are involved can be a hassle to keep up with.

Of course you have to still shop inteligently. Just cause it is BOGO and a good price, if you dont need 2, where's the savings? I always look at it as each seperately. If something is $16.99 and is BOGO, I say each one is $8.50 - first is that a good price for each one and secondly, do I need two? And then think - can I use the other as a gift or to help someone out like the kids or to keep on hand for when the kids come over. Sounds like a lot of things to consider all just to save a little, but in the end, you'll put it all together and make a good desicion after you've thought about it. Things like underwear - yes, buy 2 - open one package now and put the otheir n the closet for when these wear out.

If it's an item I normally buy or can use, I will buy it. I do buy a lot of my food this way. When it's on sale as buy one get one free, I buy the maximum amount allowable. This is how I stock up on things instead of having to keep buying that item over and over again. For example, we drink a lot of coffee, my hubby and I, so we go through a big can of coffee about every two weeks. So when it's on sale at 2 for 1 I will buy at least the two, but more if it allows, so then I don't have to buy any the next two week period. I also know my prices on items like this, so I know if it is really a good deal or not. I would know if they raised the price.

every time i see a buy one take one sign on the mall, i stop by to see the item if they are really giving us the other time for free. the reason i say this because some stores say that you are having the other product for free when in fact you are actually paying for the two products fooling you to buy two items in one buying. you will learn that you have been tricked when you see that item on other store and see it is only half the price of buy one get one item . now i know if i am really buying one and having the other for free or am i just paying for the other item as well.
