A lot depends on the age of the children. Do they love castles and lochs? Will they be happy away from theme parks? Do they love country activities or are they city kids born and bred? My suggestion is to choose an area you want to tour and stop by the local Tourist Information Centre to ask about activities for the children. They will be able to offer plenty of brochures and practical suggestions.

The capital Edinburgh is good for children as there is a lot to see like the castle, camera obscura, museum of childhood, zoo etc. It is expensive though but well worth visiting. If you like the countrside, then you could try Fife or the west highlands, Loch Lomond and further up to Oban and over to the islands.
