Cellphones are big in the Philippines. Almost all Filipinos from all walks of life have a cellphone. And cellphones with built-in cameras area a must in this country. Not only is it a status symbol, it also serves to fill the Filipino's enjoyment of seeing themselves in pictures. And as a past time, a part from text messaging, we love taking pictures of ourselves with our cellphones. But I've noticed that most people tend to take pictures of themselves at a 90 degree angle causing them to look up at the lens rather than straight to the lens. Why is that?

I do it because I have a chubby chin and it makes me look slender lol :) -Amber

I understand that because the small lens tends to make things thinner as it goes farther from the lens. But then I see slim people do the same thing too.

i really don't know why people usually do that but as for me... maybe because you look better if the picture is in a 90 degrees angle... the chin looks thinner and also the face... and also the lighting, the face tends to be whiter because it's faced up and maybe they see themselves much prettier in that angle... as for me that is my reason.. i just look thin if the camera is in a 90 degrees angle... LOL and even though when people see us in person they will look at you in a straight direction we just want to be prettier in the picture.

Hmmm... that's something to think about. I took a photography class before and there were taught that it is best to keep the lens at eye level when taking pictures of people. But what you said is something to think about.

hehehe I do that too. Im not photogenic so front picture for me is not good lolz! Its an angle that makes picture turn out pretty. We all have nice and bad angles, this angle i think is the universal angle that fits everybody.
