Italian writers

Italy is very famous in the world for the art: the Colosseum, Saint Peter's square, etc. But there are a lor of Italian writer that for me are very good. I like to read the writers of the middle age, I read them for the university and because I like them. However, there are a lot of writers in the last centuries. Do you know some Italian writers? Do you like them?

I don't remember most of the writers that I have learned about in college and in high school. But, I know of some even thought I can't remember them now.
