Ghost Ship-I'm surprised

Okay, first thing you should know about me is I am TERRIFIED of ghosts...now. I work the nightshift at work and I was off last night, so I looked at what late night movies were on. Ghost Ship was the only one on, so I watched it. i really thought I would be kicking myself for watching it alone at night, but surprisingly, I'm not!
The movie was a lot better (less stupid) than I thought it would be. I do think they used a little more gore than they had too. i think they could have left some obviosu things left to the imagination.
But I was very surprised because, this movie did not seem to scare me as much as I thought it would. I never closed my eyes during it because of a ghost, only because of the gore (i hate gore). I think the ghosts it showed in this movie weren't scary for a couple of reasons. 1..the main ghost it showed was the litte girl...and they didn't make her look like the 'scary little girl ghost' lol, she was very cute. The captians ghost was nto threatening, he talked with one of the live guys without turning mean. The singers ghost was bad and gave me the willies, but she did not scare me. And the main BAD ghost didn't scare me because I had watched him the whole movie without knowing he was a ghost, and they didn't change him to look scary when we found out.
Wow...long discussion! But I just wanted to get peoples opinions; on the movie and on how it is weird that a ghost movie didn't scare me when I am terrified of ghosts. Anyone else have big movie fears, but there was a certain movie that didn't make them fearful?

I was visiting a friend once and we watched this movie for the first time. She was spooked by scary movies. So she kept leaving me alone with her parents to watch it. But I loved it and bought it soon as I could on DVD.
It's definitely a little overdone on the gore. DOn't know if you've seen 13 ghosts, but that movie was made by the same person so some of the gore is very similar.
I think that Ghost Ship is a great movie, not scary at all...but then again, to answer your discussion I'm not easily scared by movies at all so I can't really think of a movie I diddn't want to watch because I was afraid of it.
I remember there was tons of Hype about the Blair witch project which turned out to be, in my opinion, a horrible movie.

Yes I saw 13 Ghosts, but like Ghost Ship, only on tv. Movies like these I tend to wait til it's on tv. But they do still show gore on television, so i still have to close my eyes! lol. I would consider buying Ghost Ship on dvd...I can still close my eyes when it's gory on dvd =P lol. Even though it didn't scare me as much as ghost movies usually do, I still think it was a pretty good movie.
That little girl was really cute! I think it is so awful how she had to see everyone getting killed; especially her seeing the Steward that was nice to her getting stabbed! That was awful X.X And then they hung her...:( :( :(

I ALWAYS look away! ;P lol. Most the time it's not because of whatever is scary on the movie, strictly the gore.
Have you seen Penny Dreadful? That movie was really scary to me and my sis! lol. You should see the original Black Christmas, that was a good movie, and it doesn't use gore...so I don't have to look away! lol. The original and the remake of The Hitcher were good too! You seen either of those?

I don't know if this will help you out but I'll tell you anyways.
My oldest brother has two children, 10 and 12, and he has always let them watch horror movies (even though everyone tells him not to) like Nightmare on Elm Street, Jason, Chuckie, Psycho, you name it. Lots of blood and gore and these kids have watched this stuff since they were little.
Well, one night my Nephew came to spend the night and asked me if it was true that there was an Elm Street in every town and what if Freddie came after him when he went to sleep. I tried to tell him it was all just made up but he didn't seem to get it especially since he was only like 6 at the time.
Finally, I came up with an idea. I had just bought the Sleepy Hollow DVD and he wanted to watch it with me and I agreed he could. We watched the whole thing and he was majorly grossed out at the heads being chopped off and all that. When it was over I told him there was more to it. I made him sit with me and watch the Special Features...it showed how they did all of it. All the tricks and stunts and behind the scenes. How they joke around and all that. He must of watched that 3-4 times and then he looked at me and said "So, it's not real, right?"
He's never been scared of any of them since and when they show blood sprurting out or something he tells everybody...I know how they do that LOL He's not grossed out anymore either now that he knows that it's just stunts and not real. I hope this helped you a little :)

I think it was smart of you to show him the special features! I defeniatly bet that helped him a lot. I have two nieces, who just turned 5 and 7. My sister lets them watch movies I don't think is appropriate for them, but it really isn't up to me. They aren't movies like the ones you mentioned, mostly just like Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc. But my nieces get bad nightmares and they always make up these CRAZY scary stories, so I don't like them watching movies like that, I always get upset when I hear about them watching another movie like that.
Now my 5 year old niece absolutly LOVES the Phantom of the Opera (2004), and I let her watch that. I always cover her eyes when the phantom kills someone, but other than that I think this movie is fine for her. She is not scared of the phantoms face when he is unmasked. She feels sorry for him that he has an 'owie' and she still prefers him to Raoul (like me ;P) lol. But I defeniatly have limits! :)

I've only seen it once, but that's because it's only been on tv once (that I saw). I'm worried about watching it on dvd because of the gore, but if it ever comes on tv again I'll probably watch it. I'm just not to good when it comes to gore!
I loved the cast! You're right about that one.

It sounds like they were using the same method that was used in Sixth Sense, and also The Others, in which you did not know that they were ghosts because they looked so real. I have not seen Ghost Ship, yet, because I am more into TCM and also Science fiction, Action Adventure, and Woman in Danger or Woman whose husband was murdered tries to find the killer type movies. I do not have ghost movie fears, but those old black and white movies were scary because it was ordinary people who may have had a lab in their basement where they cut up bodies.

Well you knew who all the ghosts were, except the really bad one, because he was the twist at the end. He looked normal so you would be "shocked" at the end when it was revealed lol. =) But you knew when another ghost showed up.

Did you not freak out when the guys were eating, and then they realized they were eating maggots?! Oh, THAT was the scariest part of the movie, LOL. A movie that I thought would scare me from the reviews of others, was The Ring. And it didn't scare me one bit. It didn't even freak me out. I was kind of disappointed.

Heh, sounds boring. I don't have any big movie fears, I'm guessing its because I've seen enough "bleh" horrors that nothing has a real impact.

Well, it wasn't really boring. It was a good movie, with a twist, just not as scary as I thought it would be (since it has ghosts!) lol.
If you want a good scare you should check out older movies. Like Black Christmas (original), When A Stranger calls (original or remake-both good (not really scary though)), The Hitcher (original AND remake-both good)...i'll let you know if I think of any others! =P Oh wait! Penny Dreadful, that movie scared me and my sister a lot! lol
