is naruto shippuden a part of naruto manga? or is it a continuation?

i just wanted to be clarified. was the shippuden after the manga? or is it in between? thanx for the info guys.

Naruto Shipuuden is the continuation of the storyline and starts after Naruto's return to Konoha after his 2 1/2 year training with Jiraiya. The animated series was just based from the Manga. Right now the Manga is too far from the anime series already that's why I just read the Manga coz' it's more updated ^_^;;

I'm afraid not for another year. The manga is way, way farther than what you see in the series now. If you want spoilers tell me I'd be happy to accommodate you hee hee hee ^_^ I just read the latest chapter and just so you know some very cool characters are gonna die (sorry couldn't help not giving out just a teensy weensy spoiler XD)
