I used to do diets all the time, until one day I realize that they were not good for me. And what I mean is that yes they work, but if you quit on the diet you gain the weight (if we are talking about diets to loose weigth)...
So, I stop going on diets when I realize that I did not enjoy the food the same way, because anytime I ate something out of my diet I felt guilty about it...

A few years ago I cut out a lot of bad foods and lost about 20 pounds

I have never been on a diet, ever.. Though I do fast during certain festivals, but that dosen't mean I fast throughout the day.. Even during fasting, I get to eat a lot of different things, so it is not usually fasting, just a change from the regular schedule.. I can't stay from food for quite long...
