Hi Laurika! Well, I can only share with you what I did. Everyones body is different and reacts in different ways. I went to the gym 5 days a week for about an hour sometimes less per day. I mostly walked on the treadmill with a slight incline and drank plenty of water while doing so. Then I stretched my body really good and lifted a bit of weights. Seeing this is about a man he could lift more weights. Every other day I would include the stationary bycycle or the stair climber. The pounds came off and I really didnt change my eating habits that much. I still ate McDonalds on occasions. Although the work out made me want to eat healthier I didnt all the time. Tell him good luck! I think just taking a good 30 min walk everyday would help him to lose a lot of weight. He could start off just doing that and incorporate weights later on to help build muscle. Bay xx

Hi Tanya. That is what I tell him, beucase I think he need to eat good and also I would feel guilty eating here like a pig and he would be on the diet.WE have gym here in our apartman complex for free and I tell him it would be nice when he would start to going there.Plus it would give him energy I think too.I need to talk to him again and if it will help him I would go with him too.Yeah, but I don't think he would listen me.

He will have more energy than he will know what to do with, and he will sleep better than ever if he starts to exercise regularly. I really need to get myself back into the gym every day. I hope he listens to you and at least tries. Good luck. xx

I lost a lot of weight last year on the Atkins diet, the only problem is you have to take a fibre supplement like fibre gel as there is no fibre in the Atkins diet. Also the best way to lose and keep weight off is to be more active and if you can get out for a walk every day it will help loads, if you can walk 10,000 steps a day, you might have to work up to this, then this is supposed to be the best amount of steps to get and keep fit.

Hello laurka. I usually eat more vegetables than meat. Most of them are Chinese cabbages, eggplants, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, lettuces, tender tofu, eggs, fish, leafy vegetables, shrimps and so on. I have them most of the time. I have no idea if your husband likes to have the sort of food listed above. But they are my main food.

I think sensible eating with portion control and attention to the food pyramid is better than a "diet" but it is also necessary to drink lots of purified water and have some kind of exercise. By sensible I mean to avoid a lot of chemicals and eat fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy products, and whole grains and not to overdo on sweets, especially huge drinks such as they sell at fast food places and to avoid artificial sweeteners which just increase the body's craving for more sweetness.

OK Laurika, I a mother for three kids and a wife. My height is only 150cm and my weight just only for 45kg. Last month, I don't believe that I was at high cholesterol level after having my thorough medical check up and straight away warded for seven days at private medical hospital. So now what I've learned, must take less for fat where its sources from edible oil, cooking oil, etc.. Now what I have done to reduce and control my cholesterol level are, I prepare my food by using microwave oven and more for barbecue. And for meat(beef) I only take a palm size of it in a month and not more in quantity. By doing this way of preparation, the garlic will no more smell as onion. Me, my husband and my kids enjoy eating it. The daily routine and a must for me is I bake garlics in my microwave for 3 minutes only. Put it one container and keep it in my fridge. For morning time I will take and eat only one small garlic and one at night. Amazing...it dropped, I mean for my cholesterol level. This is not my tongue speaking but my experience speaking.

best thing I ever tried is the slow and steady approach. Have one third of your plate with your protein and condensed starch foods (meat and potatoes) then fill the other third with veg and fruit. exercise 30 minutes every day, and drink plenty of water

sorry that should read 2 thirds fruit and veggies!

Honestly, no diet works. You need to accept who you are. Believe me, I am not trying to be some preachy pants here. But its a fact. I have tried it all!! I am not happy with myself in general, and weight is just a side thing. But its the one thing I pick on a lot... once I deal with my issues, then I won't need to diet. I will just learn to eat only when hungry and stop eating when full. I don't want to restrict anything because if I do, I am setting myself up for failure.

I'm also a diabetic like another person who responded. I was told to watch my carbs, but not to go on a low carb diet. I eat around 60 grams of carbs at each meal and I have been dropping weight like crazy. The best part is I eat more then I use to. Why because I'm not eating the sugar as much. I eat pasta and rice and potato's. I just measure it out. Eventually you learn to do it right. The hardest part was making myself eat at first and it still is. I am never hungry. I would advise your I would advise your man to go see a nutritionist. Some insurances may cover the cost too. This is what they had me do after I was diagnosed, and it's the best thing I ever did. They will tell him exactly what he needs to do for him, something that is only for him. Not a diet thats made to fit everyone.

I can't say a particular diet would work. But a lifestyle change will definitely work. Diets are temporary, and after you lose a few pounds, you go right back to eating like you did before the diet, and gain it all back. It's a never ending cycle. Start with little things. Cut back on portions, cut back on butter, soda pop, fatty foods. If you cut them out completely, cold turkey, you will be miserable. But if you start by little things here adn there, you will then notice the weight coming off and be encouraged. Also, start MOVING. Do something, walking, going up and down stairs, just anything. Best of luck with this. Make it fun and interesting and you and he won't be bored with it.

It is sad, but there are many people who do not realise the value of a good diet. We don't only need fruit and vegetables and non-fat protein to be healthy, but we also need to consider exercise. It seems that many people in developed countries eat too much and don't move around enough..
