Does it bother you to ride in an elevator? Do you go out of your way not to?

Elevators don't bother me. - elevator doors

Elevators never bothered me in the least but at one time my mother wouldn't get in one no matter what floor she had to go to. I remember one time she made me walk up 12 flights of stairs in a building because she would not use the elevator. Now she lives on the 4th floor of a building and really has no choice since she's now 82 years old. Do you mind being in an elevator? When you are in one do you worry about what could possibly happen?

i dont mind elevators if the destination can be reached easily with maybe 2 flights i walk it cause its a good exercise but if its like on the 3rd or 4th floor then i take the elevator i am usually in a hurry so i take it but when im not then i take the stairs. i dont mind taking the elevator cause sometimes u meet some interesting people in there. or u might run into a long lost friend and take it for a quick conversation i never worry about what could happen cause if something happens u cant do anything about it so u might as well go with the flow i am a kind of person who gets panic attacks once in awhile so i might freak but i would try to contain myself it all depends if i am in their with some 1 when it happens so it all depends on the situation

I never really had problem with them.I was livivng in apartman in 11 floor so going wothout elevator, uf it would be hard. But one time I get stuck in there and I was worried what would happen to me.I have fear from small places, I feel like I cannot breath, but finally elevator move and my fear was gone. But still it is not that bad like my mum. When she is elevator she is always pale and looking like she is gonna pass out.She has realy fear, but since she has problem with wlaking she have to use them, becuase she would never go like to the 10-th floor. I saw somebody mention escalator, I think I have bigger fear from those, since I was kid.We have been in shopping center and I almost fall, thanks god some man saw it and hold me to the hands, so nothing happen to me.

I never did mind being in an elevator until about two years ago. Was visiting a casino and decided to use the elevator. I was going down and the elevator went up, stopped, the doors opened and there was a brick wall staring me right in the face. I pushed the "call button" as I was alone and about half hysterical. It's difficult to really think in this sort of situation. With a pounding heart, I again pushed the button for the doors to close and next the down button. The elevator went down, the doors opened and all was well. I complained to security and their response, "that elevator hasn't been working well all day." Well duh, shut it down and repair it were my first thoughts. I simply walked away and never rode the elevator again when visiting that casino.

I was scared and all I could think about was my family and I may never see them again. I shook for about a half hour after I got into the casino. At my age that's dangerous!

Sometimes we have to "bite the bullet"...lol...especially when we are in a hurry. A little worrying isn't such a bad thing.

Yes I've stopped using the elevator. Using the stairs is a good way to get physical activity in the day. Plus if its just a couple of floors, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. I can do 1 to 8 easy and I'm working on getting up to 10.

You are so right! Using stairs is great exercise but I won't go up more than 3 or 4. That is my limit...I'll take an elevator if I have to go any higher than that.

I think if I ever had anything happen to me in an elevator that would make me walk up as many stairs as I had to to get where I'm going. It doesn't take much to scare me out of something.

If it's just a floor/storey or two, I prefer the stairs. However, if it's very high I'll use the elevator. I'm not crazy about them, but have never had any trouble, and they're so quick these days. Basically, I'm not mad on them, but it's not a big fear of mine.

I don't mind using elevators at all. When I was child, it was the height of excitement when we came to the City & I was able to go to the big shops & use the elevators. I use them most times when I go shopping. Yopur poor Mother, forcing herself to walk up so many stairs.

It's amazing what we can talk ourselves into if we're scared isn't it?

Elevators don't bother me. but steep escalators bothered my mom.In my area there are certain metro stops that have steep and I mean steep escalators. My mom couldn't go down on them. She would have to use the elevator.

Not so crazy about them! - an up escalator
Escalators of any kind always make me nervous and I try to avoid them if I can. My mother would rather use them than an elevator.

I've never liked elevators but not enough to avoid them. I mean, if I have to go up 10 flights of stairs I'd take the elevator instead but if I only have to go up a few I'd definitely just take the stairs instead.

When it's only a few floors up I just tell myself it's good exercise and it doesn't seem so bad to me.

It depends on the elevator and the situation. Personally, I think ít's much better for your health to take the stairs and several people at our local hospital agree with me. Anyway, some elevators are so smooth, you don't feel like you're even moving, they feel safe. Others, you wonder if they're going to break and tumble and when you get off, you're go thankful, you feel like you just played Russian Roulette with your life. The situation, if someone talks to me, it bothers me less, or if the person is nice/familliar. But if the person with me is scary, like when I used to have to go to a place where domestic violance people were also meeting at night and another place where ex-cons were meeting their parole officer. . .. You get the idea. Not sure if the stairs or the elevator is less scary in some cares, I'm glad the Independent Living Center moved to a less scary place. Take care, different topic, probably wouldn't have thought of this one exactly. Take care

Hello! Riding an elevator doesn't bother me at all. I like it actually. Well, if I only have to go to the 2nd floor then I rather choose the stairs..but if it's the 5th floor of course the elevator..*hehe* When i'm in it do I worry? yeah, I imagine those scary elevator scenes in the movies and it worries me, kinda exciting but terrifying. Just imagine being stuck inside, well it's okay if you're stuck with a handsome guy...LOL!! ciao! c",)

I don't think it ever bothered me to ride in an elevator. I think one of the things that worries people more is the fact that it's a small - usually - closed space, followed by the fear of being hanging many floors up by some cables that no matter how strong they are are still cables. I don't like it too much when I get stuck in the middle of floors but it doesn't really get me in panic. On the other hand I often use stairs. I don't have much patience to wait for the elevator so when it's not there right away I tend to take the stairs specially if I'm going down or if I'm going up for only 2 of 3 floors:)

Well, I don't think it is a problem to take an Elevator for me, since I suppose, most of the time, say over 99%, the lift goes correctly. Andy

Normally no, I don't mind riding in an elevator, esp. if it's roomy and airy. However, one time in Indo I had a ride in a small elevator and there were so many people and it creaked and waddled...so it was scary. As long as it moves up and down smoothly, then I don't mind. ;-D Sometimes the thought of being stuck in an elevator crosses my mind, but it never happened, so I never worry anymore.

It does not bother me at all to ride in elevators. In fact, I think that riding in elevators is quite fun. The reason why I think so is because back when I was a small child, I would always jump in the elevator as it was moving. It eventually ended up getting stuck, and that was a crazy experience. Everyone else was panicing, however I was calmly enjoying the seperation from me and society. Another instance happened when the elevator got stuck, and that was with me and my friends. Quite frankly, I enjoy the elevator.
