Alas... J.K. Rowling confirms that Albus Dumbledore is gay... this explains why he was never attracted of link to a witch or a female muggle.... He was actually smitten by Gellart Grindelward... This is somewhat distressing for me... i always thought that he was this great father figure who never married because there was just no time for love... But gay or not... he is still the greatest wizard of all time... http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20071020/ap_en_ot/books_harry_potter;_ylt=AlyPw1hV6.6BNXI6CcZ0rQJxFb8C

I don't see why his sexuality should change your opinion or anyone else's opinion of him. Just because he's gay does not mean that his role to Harry and all the other children that he helped is any different. He's still a great father figure, and just because he's gay, does NOT mean that he's not any less of one. I can't figure out why everyone is so hung up on his sexuality and it supposedly changing who Dumbledore really is; the greatest wizard of all time.

it doesnt change who he is, and it doesnt mean he is less of a father figure... it just is one more thing that we cannot explore about the character anymore. dumbledore always was mysterious, and learning any detail about him makes him more humane and less supernatural.

I remember wondering about his sexuality when I was reading some of the stuff they said about his friendship with Grindelwald, but it was a passing thought. I never really got to "Dumbledore must be gay" or anything. Honestly, I don't see how it matters. He's still a great father-figure in the books, a great teacher and headmaster, and a great wizard. I can't see how being gay would have anything to do with any of that, or really change anything we already know about him. I get annoyed at the idea that sexuality really changes anything else about a person. So he's gay? So what? I was actually kinda impressed that Rowling told anyone, in a way, because it will likely hurt her reputation as a kid's book author. It was kind of a daring thing, making a highly respected character gay, but at the same time I don't see why she didn't actually tell us that in the books instead of just saying it later.

Personally, since Dumbledore isn't that big of a character to me in the movies (or the books) it doesn't matter. I think this is merely an attempt to boost her book sales and gain more publicity. Why not come out with this back when they had the Yuletime Ball when there was alot of romance in the air at Hogwarts? Why wait till all the books are done and she's at the 13th hour? The UK is a huge supporter of gay rights so it isn't surprising that she had to toss this in there somewhere but I still think it's nothing more than a publicity stunt. AT PEACE WITHIN

Hello Aseretdd...... Gay people DON'T make father-figures? LOL they do. They are just as wonderful or horrible as straight people! and i love what you said in the end "he is still the greatest wizard of all time'...he is. No doubt about it. Being gay does not add or take anything away from people. Don't be distressed, being gay, straight or bi is as natural the earth spinning around the sun :)

I don't care either way. What gets me is why is it an issue? Some things should be kept to the imagination. Who came up with is he gay? I never read anything in all of the books to indicate any preference. I still love the story. This should not influence anyones opinion of the series.

I'm not terribly dismayed by this bit of news. Whether he's straight, gay, bi, or asexual, it doesn't diminish Dumbledore's status in my eyes; he's still a great mentor and a great wizard.
