in the place where i live now, winter is knocking the door already. one thing for sure, it will be freezing cold one of these days. during this time, my skin gets dry especially my lips so i have to keep lip balm in my pocket. i also get this very disturbing static electricity from my hands and it really hurts every time i hold something metallic. you guys living in a place/country with winter season, what problems do you encounter most of the time?

Hello dimaks, I live in a country with only two seasons. Summer and rainy season. It's been my long wish to experienced what is winter all about. LOL! But I guess if i'll be in a place with winter season the big problem I would encounter will be my sneezing! Grrr... I always sneez everytime I feel cold and I could not control it nor can stop it. It will only stop if i feel warm and drink a glass of coffee or anything that is something hot. ^_^

haha, i know what you mean by 2 seasons :) it is the way in the tropical countries. but yes, most of my friends here are developing some allergies during winter. i don't know why. for me, i observed that i also had minor nose bleed.

Ohhh... I did not know winter could bring such dilema. All I know is the fun side of the winter like skiing, ice skating and other things done during winter, I only saw this at television and it's really kind of fun. LOl! Now I am already thinking twice to go to a country with winter season. I will for sure don't know how to handle with such problem but thanks for posting this discussion now I know what common problems occur during winters. :)

I can't make a suggestion about the static electricity but can about the dry skin and chapped lips. Because it get cold in the winter we tend to not drink as much water as we should. We need as much water in the winter as we do in the summer. If you will drink 7 to 8 glasses of water I'll bet that your dry skin and chapped lips will go awayfor the most part. I get chapped lips when i don't drink enough water in summer or winter.

Hi, dimaks! I just moved from Indonesia to Finland 7 months ago. I also experienced the static electricity thingie, but I thought it was just some weird incidents. I never thought that it's such a usual experience in a cold country. Gee!!! And I thought I was mad for feeling the static electricity when I tried to close the car door with my bare hands. Maybe using gloves would help? My face skin gets drier as well as it gets colder. I decided to try using extra virgin olive oil on my face as moisturizer (yes, the cooking oil) and it seems to be working well. ;-D I just need to apply it twice a day (morning and night)...massage it with my fingers a bit...then dab it with tissue after 1-2 minutes 'coz it absorbs pretty quickly. I find that it's more effective than applying my moisturizers. And yes, I also have to apply lip balm whenever I go out. My lips aren't dry but still I want to prevent them being chaffed. I've never experienced real winter yet here in Lapland, so it's gonna be interesting. This year the worst temp. was -35'C and I wasn't here yet (it was in February). I don't know what I'd do if the temperature is THAT cold. Fortunately I'm unemployed, so maybe I'll just stay home all day if it's too cold for me to go outside he he...

i was under the previous impression that wearing gloves would help in deterring the static electricity during winter but as i observed, the kind of material you wear also depends. if you use loosely knitted gloves, there is a tendency that the energy would come through it and reach your skin. so with this observation i opted to change to thicker gloves or those made with finer materials. haha.. good try on the virgin oil. good thing it works with you :)

Hi, dimaks! Ahhhhh...so the gloves shouldn't be loosely knitted, eh? Fortunately I have none like those he he he... Yeah, I'm also glad the olive oil works for me he he...

I live in Ontario Canada and I know what you mean about winter. Sometimes when it is very dry and cold out you feel like your nose hairs are freezing. Although I think the most frustrating thing about winter for me is that the snow crunches under you and I seem to have a real problem with that. But with winter comes lower immune systems which make it eesy to get sick. I found as a remedy for colds, sore throats and not feeling well in general that apple juice works best. Anyways, good luck. r.

When winter comes,my appetite becomes unimaginable good. Some I even fel that I can't be fill no matter how much I've eaten. And this feazes me!!Because, you know,to much food leads to be fat, lazy and unhealty. But I don't know how to control this.Anytime and anywhere I see food I can't help to eating. So my appetite is the most terrible thing when winter comes.

My skin doesn't dry too much so that is not one of my major problems. Now the static electricity certainly is and it bothers me a lot, specially since it's not something I can or know how to fix. Of course the major problem of winter for me it's cold LOL Being born and having lived the most part of my life in nice hot or temperate countries cold is something that doesn't go well with me hehe Snow and ice are something we used to watch on tv and say "Oh.. so pretty " but that was it. We couldn't even make an educated guess as to what it really feels like:) So winter brings another major problem for me: each winter I have to re-learn how to walk all over again. THe truth is that I learned how to walk and walked for the most part of my life in dry ground, and if wet, it wasn't at least icy. So my default walk is somewhat mixed with a bit of a shuffle, maybe sliding,or just the position of the foot as it touches the ground, I'm not even completely sure of what it is... but the fact is that is how I walk, generally. Comes summer and walking like that will land me on the ground any time there's ice. SO the first weeks Ijust have to readjust my walking and pay lots of attention. Remembering that it's winter and that I have to walk differently.

I used to live in Michigan and when it got cold, I also would have very dry skin and dry/chapped lips. Right now I live in North Carolina but the cold here isn't at all as bad as that. Most other places I lived were in Florida and Tennessee. Which it did get cold and I still would experience the extreme dry skin and chapped lips, and I would get that static electricity and if I touched someone or a door knob I would get very big shocks! I think it was from the sweaters and things that I wore and rubbing my socks against the floor as I walked that made that happen. I don't really know though.

Well i don't really like winter. It is too cold for me, dry skin is always the problem, but also going out with children will not be possible anymore. So I need to find other solution for that, but means playing in the open air will be less for them

The place I live with clear-cut 4 seasons. The winer is the longest, from Nov. to Mar. Because our city is near the sea, the air is full of moisture which makes you feel bad in winter. No matter how thickly you wear, you can still feel the cold air blow into your cloth. But the wet air does't have possitive impact on our skin. We feel dry too. I put lip balm in my pocket too and put lotion on my body after taking shower. It's easy for me to catch cold. I don't like winder. :(

Our country is in winter now,so dry,so cold. The same with you,I must always have a lip balm in my bag,and another thing which I cannot tolerate is it is too cold. Because before the central heating suppled, our room has already been very cold, this period is very painful

Well where I live, it does not get too bad. When freezing ice comes in though, the city shuts down because people are not able to handle driving in it since they are not used to those driving conditions.

aw that's too bad i think :) but it sure is dangerous to drive and even walk on those slippery ice glazes on the road.

well i live in canada (lol, need i say more?) but seriously, our winters are pretty severe here in jan/feb and i find that my skin gets super dry, but i have learned to hydrate both with water and mosturizer a lot during the winter. i also find that my bones ache a lot more during the winter as well.
