Would you let your kids ride an ATV or 3-wheeler? Are they safe?

Recently, I heard that several children had died using ATV's or 3 Wheel recreational vehicles. And, I was surprised that a parent would allow a small child to ride one of those vehicles by themselves, considering that they are prone to flipping over on an inexperienced rider. I think both kids were under the age of thirteen and very small. Have you heard about this? Do you think you would let your child or children ride one, without adult supervision? Do you think they are safe?

I would not allow my kid to ride that kind of vehicle. We have this 3 wheels trike, I dont know if it is the same as what you are saying, I used to ride on it in going to work, to make a round in the city and my 14 year old kid is also driving it. But I have a license to drive it, so when we are together, shes driving it, with the helmet and that and because she big enough to be an adult shes driving it, but with me at her back. It is safer that a 2 wheel bike. And it is nice to ride this kind of trike. But if you mean 3 wheelers found in malls for child entertainment we can allow our kids but with parents support.

until they are old enough and more experienced they would have to stay in the yard. my 4 year old boy rides a little 4-wheeler but i ride on the back with him to guide him and to teach him how to steer and brake and everything else. my 11 year old brother and my 9 year old sisters ride it by themselves but are not allowed back the trail too far unless someone else is on the other 4 wheeler with them. but i find nothing wrong with it that is how they get to be experienced at riding it.

I let my child ride and ATV, they are very safe, always under supervision and they know the dangers as best they can for their age.You have to be a responsible parent yourself to allow your child to ride these. We have even taken the precaution on turning down the throttle so the atv can only go to a certain speed....3 wheelers are dangerous and can flip quite easily and I would never even own one of those..

These things are dangerous enough for adults, never mind kids. I would never let a child ride on one at all, even with adult supervision.

no. I would never let my child under 13 ride any type of ATV or 3 wheeler. And most especially unsupervised. I suppose that I would with an adult that was closely supervising . I guess alot also would depend on the kid and , experience, etc. I tend to worry. I love my girls so much and I would be devasted if something were to happen to them.

Hi,i would never let my daughter ride one ALONE.We do ride our 4 wheeler alot,my boyfriend,i and her.We have a seat with arm rests.I sit in the back, she sits in the middle and daddy sits in the front of course, hehe. We love this freedom.Ive seen what can happen to a child when they are young and very unable to steer correctly and accelerate at a fast stopped position. It causes many fatalities when the parent is not good enough to use common knowledge to not let a child 'TRY"to maneuver one of those things.Yes they are safe if your wearing the proper gear, not driving recklessly, watching where your going, the turns, driving on the proper side of the trail, not driving on the main road and being cautious.Weve encountered many NUTS who drove on the wrong side of the trails and going on our side when they were going around a turn, luckily we go very slow around a turn where we cannot see good and are always watching for others and never guzzling the feeder too fast. I always wanted a atv when i was a kid and I used to ride with my childhood boyfriend when i could. his step mom used to make him wear a helmet. I think that it would depend on the age of my child and their responsibility level. There is fun to be had on atv's in a safe way. i would probably want to supervise for awhile first too. my oldest is only 5 so its not something i've come up against yet. there have been a lot of kids getting hurt or killed on atvs. a girl i went to school with lost her brother that way. i think he was 16 or 17. he was crossing a main road on his and got hit by a car.
