In case anyone notied I was gone again...the baby was admitted to the hospital on Friday. He started coughing and breathing loud Thursday night so I took him to his doctor first thing Friday morning. It was croup just as I suspected but a really bad case of it. His doctor admitted him to the CCU at the hospital and we've been there ever since. He had to stay in an oxygen tent with cool mist as much as possible. They were giving him 4-6 breathing treatments with the nebulizer every day plus he was on an oral steroid. Yesterday they started him on an antibiotic also. He's home today but we have to watch him very closely. His breathing is still a little wheezy but nothing like the honking noise he was making Friday...he sounded like a flock of geese with every breath. BUT daddy and brothers are a little sick too so I'm thinking there's a good chance they'll pass it right bak to him. :( As much as I wanted to get home I would have stayed another day if I'd known how bad they really were (I think Daddy down played it just to get me home!)

So sorry to hear of your baby being so sick. I sure hope your baby gets better real soon and hopefully your baby's father and brother won't get the baby more sick. I know how it is to have your baby stay in the hospital. My daughter had to stay a week in the NICU when she was born because she had fluid in her lungs. Plus afterwards she was diagnosed with Asthma and had to have the breathing treatments. That was no fun trying to keep the mask on an infant.

Aww...your poor baby! I can't imagine going through that! This is the 2nd time he's gotten sick ever...which IS good...but when he gets sick, he gets REALLY sick. He had pnumonia when he was a month old and now 10 months later this. He still sounds horrible too but according to them it's "out of his lungs" and is "just an upper respiratory thing" now...I hope this isn't an indication of any long term breathing problems.

It was very hard. When she was born I was only to stay 48 hours but they let me stay an extra day. After that I had to go home because they had no room to keep me. I wasn't even out of the NICU and was balling. I didn't want to leave her there. That is probably the hardest thing I have had to do in the past five years of being a mother. I wouldn't even wish it on my worst enemy. I felt so empty inside. Here I had just carried her for 8 months (she was a month early) and then I had to leave her behind while I go home empty handed. The pain I felt that day was far worse than the pain I went through giving birth to her and I had her completely natural.

Thanks for the advice! He seems completely exhausted all of the time so I'm sure anything relaxing will be a big help.
