Sometimes people look at me weird when I proudly display my latest creations. It's not because I make weird stuff out of animal organs or something, in fact, well the oppose. It's because I can make pretty looking handy crafts like origami and other stuff.
Why is there a stigma here? In this day and age of gender equality, can't men like pretty things too?

I actually agree with you man. Its too bad some societies don't and some people along with that.
**As a guy***
If you don't like pretty things, you're insensitive/boorish
If you do like pretty things, you're a sissy
If you don't care about colors, art and design, you're not well-rounded
If you do care about colors, art and design, you're a sissy

Yea because you're a guy, you're supposed to be into football and baseball and who's in whatever series, blah blah blah. And why is there a stigma, its been interwoven in society for the past 30-40 years. Just check out TV commercials, TV shows and even government and law. You'll see some anti-male stigma and a pattern emerges.

As long as we're true to how we feel, who cares? Isn't it more 'man' to be strong enough to get things done our own way? :) Thanks theprogamer!

I think that is just such an idiotic attitude! My son loves to do origami as well as sew, crochet etc etc and I personally think thats FABULOUS! His grandfather knits and sews and has for many many many yrs and he's also an amazing baker too (I love his pies, cookies and jams LOL YUMMY)...I hate to say it but I doubt that sort of Macho/Male Dainty/Female thought process will ever be gone ya know...Its so sad to have to say that but I just dont see it...

My mom taught me origami, but not her needlework and she's great at it (heck, she raised us on it!). She refuses to let me mess up her clean kitchen, so I never did get to learn how to cook. I can cook simple things though, so I guess I have the talents for it.
I'm asian, around these parts, a man has to be a 'real man'! So you can tell why I only share my crafts with open-minded folks :p

Absolutely and I encourage you to keep making 'pretty things' but categorize them as more creative expressions of a soul able to roam free from stereotype and gender deciding based on historical b.s. .... !

Speaking as a man, I would say that we all have our creative side and this is regarded as the feminine side. If man had no creative/feminine side at all, then what would we be interested in? The same is so for women too, they need a masculine side. I like to think that I am creative. I am a musician and therapist - these are considered feminine activities. I am married and I fathered children, and these are masculine activities - yet I have been creative there too..

I guess its not that easy for some to understand that men do have a feminine side too, and need to get in touch with it to stay balanced. Hopefully that will change with time.
Thanks for you comment derek_a!
