Do you have one of them in your life..that no matter what course you take to do something whether it be a certain way to shop to quitting a bad habit they always have advice and their way is the best? Or if you mention you want something they try to strong arm you into picking out something that they would want? I do have someone in my life like that and it drives me crazy! She is constantly trying to strong arm me into her way of thinking. If you have someone like that how do you deal with them?

I would tell them to knock it off, politely. And if they don't, I wouldn't deal with them ever again. There is a difference between giving advice and strong arming someone.I am a very stubborn person and I don't usually change my mind and I assume others are the same way. So I always respect people's choices, even if there are the wrong ones. And if I am your friend I will voice my opinion but I will support your decision.If this person can't respect your choices, then it is time to stop dealing with them.

Dear Jillhill, When I was young I had friend, of course, he is elder than me by 10 years. I used to consult him in many issues. Subsequently he shifted to some other city. Subsequently I never consulted for advice from anybody. I take my own decision on all matters. Before taking any decision I used to put the problem in a sheet of paper and write out the pros and cons of my decision. Then I take the final decision on any matters relating financial, house matters and my new job. Till date I never regretted my decision.

I am glad I don't really have someone like that in my life. All my real friends usually respect my opinions and do try to get me to see it's their way or the highway!! I don't know what I would do in that case, I think I would just ignore the advice...although I might not tell them that I am not taking their advice. I might just do my own thing quietly and hope they get the idea eventually!
