Christmas is coming.

Season's coming fast. Many malls and department stores play their collection of christmas songs and because of this the buyers are in the mood to shop. Some are buying gifts this early coz they don't want to be in the middle of traffic, or be stuck with other buyers who are panicking what to buy for their families and friends. But there's one thing that I noticed. Why is that not all of us feel that christmas is coming? Why is it that when you tell somebody that christmas is coming they'l just say "so what?" or even say "oh yes, it's the time that I'm going to be broke again..". It seems that the spirit of christmas is slowly fading away. Even though you tell them that christmas is the day Jesus was born and that we have to be happy for that they would still give you a sour look and say "it's only for kids". Is it really for kids only? Why is that they're only thinking of the presents to buy and money to spent? It's so sad to see how the world change and so do the thinking of many of us. How can they feel that christmas is just not about buying and giving, but it's about sharing and loving and remembering that Someone had given us a chance to experience this special day.

Mabuhay Kababayan! You know the notion of "Christmas is for kids" is one of my pet peeves. I just hate hearing that because it shows how people have forgotten what Christmas is all about. It's about the child in the manger. It's about the miracle of God becoming human. Those who say that are so caught up in the commercialism of the season and it's sickening. I admit I enjoy the gift hunting and the giving. I also encourage the idea of Santa with my kid. But above that I know what "reason for the season" is. Yes Christmas season does have it's magic and wonder. And I enjoy that still as though I were a kid. But again I know the real reason why I celebrate. We who remember I think should do more than observe and question. I think we should take a proactive stand and make people remember the child in the manger. You know what I also hate that is common here in the Philippines? Those remixed Christmas songs they play at the malls. The ones wherein the mix a carol like Silent Night with the latest hit dance song into a medley. That to me is just outright wrong. That for me is the biggest show of commercialism and the loss of the meaning of Christmas.

Hey Kababayan! You're right bout that! The season is about Christ being born and not kids and adults spending money buying. And again, you're right about those christmas songs with some mix of another music. I don't like it either. They're making the song meaningless. Thanks for the comment.

hi hopejordan. here in the philippines, when october comes in many malls and department store sell their items for a lower price. let say bout 20-25% discount. then when comes november it becomes a lot cheaper like 25-50% discount. that's when a lot of people go to malls even though they know they'l be stucked there. maybe it won't hurt, atleast they've saved a lot. thank you for the comment hopejordan.
