Yes having higher megapixels is better but there are also other things to consider when buying a digital camera. These should help you make better decisions http://www.pcworld.com/article/125645-1/article.html http://www.pcworld.com/article/123408-1/article.html Long story short, megapixels do make crisp and bigger images. But you also should consider shutter speed, so you don't lose the shot you really wanted. Consider the zoom features too since some are just preset instead of optical. Environment features should be something to look for too so you can adjust according to what you are photographing. Look for stabilization too especially if there are problems with aiming, surroundings, environment stability. Video capture isn't really necessary.

thanks ACTUALLY MY budget is limited so i want to limit my self to 7 or 8 megapixel camera. i have read a review of canon and nikon on pc world page earlier and it was showing that canon is must faster and of better quality than nikon in 7 mp camera. the canon model is i think is sd1000. i am from india and i am going to singapore in next 3-4 days. so should i buy it from singapore and if yes, then from where in singapore so that i can get value for money.

It is either Nikon or Canon. To me, if you go for better picture resolution, I would suggest you go for Canon however, if you go for style, weight and handy, I would recommend Nikon. In term of functions, all the cameras in the same range almost have the same functions. Just curious, why 8 - 10 MP? If you're not doing poster or anything like it, 5- 7 MP will do. The bigger the mwgapixel, the bigger storage it require. You shop around and get the best bargain.

The bigger the pixels the better quality the pictures, I have a 10meg Nikon. If you buy a camera with video make sure it has sound as well apparantly not all do have sound.

I think Sony have one of the best quality. I'm not shure , but , think top of the models of this marks are whit perfect quality , so there is no problem if you wish to buy the newest model. Also , i think Sony is cheaper then Nikon.
