Slowing the flow

Money has been flowing out of the US to Mexico and other countries at rapidly growing rates. In 2000, 6.6 BILLION dollars was sent home by both leagal and illegal immigrants from Mexico. By 2006, that amount had grown to 24 BILION dollars; much of the increase coming form illegal immigrants. So far, this year money flowing to Mexico has only shown a 2% increase. To me, this means that enforcing our existing laws, cracking down on border crossings, and raiding employers known to be hiring illegal immigrants is working. The flow of illegal workers has not sstopped; but, it is slowing. Illegal workers are finding it more difficult to make enough money to enable them to send money back home. Here is a link to the full story - http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/26/business/worldbusiness/26remit.html?pagewanted=1&th&emc=th This is just another easy measurement that shows our stricter policies are starting to have an effect. We still have further to go; but, this shows us that we are on the right track. We just need to stay the course and not let the politicians mess things up before we get this problem taken care of.

I dont know if you know this Immigation website it is in Real Time and as you watch you can see every second the amount of money that is being sent out of the states. I find this site to be most informative. http://immigrationcounters.com/

Thanks for the site, it is very informative. However, I did spot one problem with the "money counter". The one for Mexico is "since Jan 2006"; so. it doesn't show how much was sent in 2006 vs how much has been sent this year. So, you can't see if the flow is increasing or decreasing and by how much. Money wired to Latin America is "since '01", which is even worse for trying to spot trends.
