Castle or Cottage?

If you were given the choice of a place to live would you choose a beautiful castle or a beautiful cottage? I know there is a world of difference between the two, but lots of space appeals to some, while people like myself do not like a lot of space. My obvious choice would be a beautiful cottage with maybe 6 rooms and 2 baths. I like the look of a quaint cottage because I do not like huge places. I guess it is a phobia with me. So what would you choose?

I was watching the movie "The Holiday" the other day and I think i would prefer to live in a cottage as opposed to a castle - small and comfortable is what I like!

There is a lot to be said for a cozy little cottage, maddysmommy. My mother used to always stress that one day space will cost a pretty penny.

It's interesting that you mentioned "The Holiday" maddy, because I am in the middle of that movie and that cottage is what I thought of when I saw this discussion. I LOVE the bathroom!! The bathtub is SO CUTE!! The front of the cottage is so peaceful looking too!!

You didn't say why you would choose a castle, darkaeon, so I must assume that you are just a "castle" person.

I would definately take the castle, especially if it was in England or Scotland. All the rooms would get used, there would be project rooms, Movies rooms, rooms for a band or 2 to play or rehearse, a sound and recording studio, a fencing and sword room, and on and on LOL..

I see that you are a person with many interests, cempires. I am sure you would find something to fill all that space in your castle.

That is a hard choice! There are a lot of us so in many was the large spacious castle sounds very appealing. Everyone would have their own room, we would have space for everything, I could sneeze at 3am without worrying about waking up everyone in the whole house! But then again I imagine it would get quite tiring chasing and keeping track of children in such a large space, not to mention the chore of picking up the toys that would be strung all over the castle. A nice little cottage sounds pretty nice thinking about it like that! I also like the coziness a cottage would provide. Maybe I could get the castle for the family to live in with plenty of house help and nannies and have a little cottage out behind just as a place for me to go to get away. :)

That sounds like a plan, foxyfire, your own private little space. It has been quite some time since I've had anyone living with me, and I doubt that I could get used to it again, lol.

Hehe..I wouldn't mind a castle....not phobic about a lot of space, but heck, heard castles can usually be drafty...LOL...I'm like you though, the idea of a quaint country cottage, like the kind you see in photos of England or Ireland...and beautiful gardens all around...that would be my idea of heaven on earth.

Wouldn't that be lovely, pyewacket? Maybe they could throw in one of those quaint thatched roofs that I like, lol. I could see myself living the life of Riley.(:

Awww, a little tiny cottage would suit me just fine since it's only me and my cat.....just two little bedrooms (need one for extra space), a nice big bathroom with windows, a pretty little red and white kitchen, and of course, I do need a wood burning fireplace in the living room, hmmmmm, one in the bedroom to please, lol!...oh yes, I like shutters on the windows with flower boxes, that would be sweet. A castle would be way to big for me and Kash, we'd lose each other, haha.....but I'd like to go on vacation in one for about two weeks, that would be fun. Would be kind of spooky at night so I'd have to do some ghost hunting too.

Yes, kashmeresmycat, a little cottage sounds perfect. I've never understood why some people like large houses unless they have a large family. I would also like to visit a castle, however.

If the cottage has the most awesome view then I would choose the cottage. I prefer it small or smaller than a castle. I think living in a castle is a weird thing. I dream of being a princess before but taking it to a reality like living in a castle is pretty weird thing to live at. Maybe I can’t survive. I like it simple where I could run around the house in a minute not like in a castle, probably it’ll take me a day to round the whole house. hehe...

I would have to say a castle. A cottage might be too small for my son in a wheelchair. A castle would give him lots of room to get around and everyone could have lots of privacy.

I would pick the cottage. It would be nicer to live in and not as much to hassle with in my opinion. Plus there is a lot one can do with that amount of space as well. I think cottages are cuter too.

It weould have to be a cottage. A castle would need staff to keep it clean and beautiful and to tend the grounds. Hopefully, I could look after a cottage by myself. LOL

Part of the deal must be maid service. With that said, I would pick the castle. I like the idea of many rooms. I always dreamt of having a castle or a mansion that has a formal look outside and has casual theme inside. So you would think looking from the outside that it would be a palace inside, but it isn't. It is a t-shirt and jeans, kick off your shoes kind of house.

The goth romantic in me would jump at the chance of living in a castle, with it's history and architecture. The dreamer side of me would happily live in a lovely little cottage, with an inglenook fireplace and country kitchen. I don't think I could chose hun

I would choose the castle. I love large homes and I can only imagine how much fun I could have in a castle. I think that I would even want the moat outside so I could feel important.I would want the guards at the front door and of course, a maid to clean the thing!!

Just give me a little cottage! - cottage in the country
Many years ago when my ex was in the air force we lived in Louisiana and in the cutest green cottage with a white picket fence with rose bushes that were gorgeous. We only had 3 small rooms and one bath but it was perfect for us. I would take that over a castly any day!

The first thing I would have to ask before making a choice is this: Do I have to do the cleaning myself or do I have maids?? I have to clean it, give me the cottage. 6 rooms, 4 1/2 bathrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room. I could be really happy with that. I have maids, give me the castle. I cannot even begin to think what all I could do in a castle. Maybe it would be too much. I could have an entire wing just to myself. That might be really nice.

A cottage makes me think of warm homeyness. With a castle, I think of cold hard stone, lots of beauty, but not very homey. I LOVE lots of space, but too much space is less cozy and makes it seem too lonely and depressing. SO The 6 room cottage you mentioned would be nice... or I could drop that down to 4 rooms. But I think I would definatly choose a cottage over a castle. I think I'd prefer to be able to afford a castle, but live in the cottage instead.

I would choose a cottage! It seems more cozy and homelike thana castle!! i don't want a lot of space because unfortunately space comes with clutter, and more to clean! I guess my cottage would be somewhere on a lake, have 5 bedrooms with 4 baths, definately a large walk-in closet, wrap around porches, lots of fireplaces, and surrounding mountains! That would be my dream cottage! A castle would just be too large and un-maintainable for me! I am deinfately not high maintenance, and would like my home to feel more warm and cozy!
