I read somewhere that she used many things from LOTR in her novels. I downloaded the e-book and started reading it. Already, I found many things...Dumbledore of course is a customized version of Gandalf the Wizard. They both have long white beard. A squib (non-magical people born in wizard family) is a type of drawf-firework. And also, there it was Sauron, the Dark Lord and here its Voldemort who is called Dark Lord... Well, I think I'll find more..So, has anyone of you read the novel? If yes, what else did you find?

I have read both Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter books. I like them so I won't be judging what is better I will just say that there aren't so many similarities as you think. Actually just the wizarding thing maybe the same, the characters are not the same at all. Hope this clears things up a little bit.

I have never read The Lord of the Rings. Maybe Rowlling really has referred to it, but as the world is communicative, the similarity is common and ordinary.

I have read the LOTR but not Harry Potter. I believe that JK ROwling does admit at various times that she was inspired by LOTR. I think anyone who has read it must be inspired by it... as it is an amasing series.
