What did you do with your first salary when you got your first job?

What is the first thing that you do with your first job salary? Did you buy it with some stuffs or gadgets? Personally, when I received my first salary, I did give it to my parents. I promised to myself that I will give my first salary to them if ever I will have my first job. It really feels good especially when you are able to help your parents financially with your own hardwork and sweat and I will always continue to help them no matter what. How about you? What did you do with your first salary when you got your first job? Do you still remember it? If so, what is it?

Hi there.. Quite a nice discussion there... I used my first salary to buy gifts for my family.. I also treated them with a meal at a 5 star restaurant.. With the remaining, I bought a pair of shoes for myself, and the rest I deposited in the bank...

The first THINGS I bought with my first job salary were the handy closet for my cloths since I don't have a cabinet for my clothes before and a gold ring. I don't have any jewelry that time except for an unexpensive watch. That closet (already 20 years) still exists with my old clothes still in them but my ring was stolen.

My dad took my first pay. I was not in the position as you were and I did not feel good about it. He just was there and demanded it. I had not made a decision to give it to him as I planned to go down and put it in a bank account and save it for the future, and just keep a little to spend. It was not that much, just a couple of dollars or so, since I think it was working in a strawberry field. I think if you decide to help out, that is okay, but my Dad was raised Old Country European way esp. in parts of Germany and most of the areas where they speak Low German where the girls had to hand what they made to their fathers and the boys kept their money. It was a rather discriminating method of contributing to the family.

I'd have to say that with my first salary was spent shopping, dining and traveling. I lived in Boston at the time, and spent my money on the best clothing, most expensive restaurants and I was able to take two trips with my closest friends. Italy and Paris. Although, I came into my marriage broke, I'll have those incredible memories forever. :)

Hi! I was very excited when I got my first salary though it was only a little. I bought something good to eat for my parents. And I gave the rest to my parents. They didn't want the money. They just save it for me so that I would need it in the future.

I remember I bought some new clothes that I can wear to the office and some groceries for my family. I have to save some for my daily transportation.

I gave my whole salary to my mom, although I did ask her to give me an allowance to be able to go to work and have lunch. We were both happy about it :)

I remember my first salary many years ago when the exchange rate was still $1 to a PHP 8.00. My monthly salary was only PHP700 which was very high already that time. When I first received my salary, I gave half of it to my parents and explained to them that the other half would be spent to buy personal things I badly needed such as my uniform and shoes. Theye were kind enough to understand my situation. Finally, I made use of my first salary for good things and did not spare it to partying or going out with friends. I knew it was very hard to earn a living so spending money unwisely is not a good practice or attitude.

I saved it all. So that I could eventually buy a car. Otherwise I knew I would never drive unless I had my own car. The only way I'd get my own car was to buy my own car. So I'd save it all up and I eventually did get to buy my own car about a year and a half later!

Hi braveheart07! I do agree with you that it really feels good when you can help your parents financially. With my first salary, I gave it to my parents too and I remember how teary eyed my mom and dad was. I know with what my gesture, they were so happy and they felt very special and important. However, they didn't accept all of it it, instead they told me to keep it in the bank and that I start saving. So what I did is to pay some of the household bills and buy presents for the whole family. I love that feeling. Take care and have a nice day.
