I was passing by in a highway sitting at the back of the car when I saw this big billboard which says: "It is prohibited now to give alms to the poor!" And the reasons was stated.
The light was red, so I had a chance to read everything. It made me ponder on the reasons. And realized that it somehow tells the truth.
But my principle remains the same: it is not me who should judge them but the ONE up above. I have no control of what they are going to do with the help I sometimes extend to them. What matter most to me is I help them in my own little way.
And you, do you give alms to the poor?

Well, giving alms to poor is very good thing and is encouraged in all relegions and supported in every socity.
But now their are 2 categories of poor
really poor and deserving but they dont show and dont beg, u need to find them and help them in respectable manners
Imposters, they are prtetending as poor and looking for alms , aid, begging., they are snatching the rights of desrving person, we should not be paying them any thing
the hoarding u r refering might be for those persons
hope u understand now

Distinguishing whose really poor or not is a good idea.

I don't give alms to the beggar. But I give them food if I have a food with me. I do believe that we should not let them get used to asking money from people may it be a little amount because in my own opinion, it will just tolerate them to continue their habits of asking alms. I would rather help this beggar find a simple job so that he can earn for his food.

I know that there's a law that exists to prohibit us in giving alms, not to the poor, but for those vagrants begging on streets. I do help poor people, I give them whenever I have something but I don't give them money so they won't rely too much from it and keep coming at me. Also alms are for beggars, while help/donation are for poor and needy people.
As for the law, I believe it was about "mendicancy law" which states us to stop giving alms' on people begging on streets since it may cause accidents or endangers their health and it may breed crime.

what a shame that the gov't now takes it upon themselves to decide whom you may and may not be charitable to. shameful also that it has determined that poor people are lazy.
I can not help but think of the holy mendicants, that far from lazy and ignorant decided to live a life of poverty and rely completely upon the kindness of strangers - out of humility and love of the Lord.

The government are creating many rules that sometimes they tend to ignore what is humane.

Hi izathewzia! I agree with you completely. Here in my country there is also that kind of prohibition but this does not really stop so many people from giving alms to the poor and needy. I, myself do give them in as much as I can because like you, what matters to me the most is that I was able to help someone even in the most little way such as giving some spare change. Take care and have a nice day.

i give alms to the poor occasionally. in fact, i dont think that is my responsibility to help the poor, it should be the country's. we send in tax. and the country should try best to help the poor. also, those people with big money that never run out should help the poor.

Yes, it is our government's responsibility to provide programs for the poor to uplift their flight.
