Hi all, how many of you infected by svchost.exe virus and how many times. Normally this virus will not allow you to open mozilla as well orkut, if you try to open orkut it says Orkut is banned with a odd sound of laughing like muhahaha. I too was infected by this virus once and removed.

Good for you that you were able to remove this virus. Internet explorer is very susceptible to virus and that is why I recommend you to use Mozilla or Opera as your main browser. These two browsers are much secured to use, thus preventing from getting infected with these annoying and destructible viruses. We should also provide an up-to-date antivirus software installed in our PC so that our machine will be fully secured. Have a nice day!

Oh that was an informative post.I too often get infected with viruses but I use anti-virus and anti-malware softwares to get rid of them.I think I have never get infected with this virus since I have not experienced with any of the symptoms you described.I never knew that we can remove a virus on our own without using an anti-virus software.Let me ask you can't we remove this muhahaha virus using an anti-virus or only through the process you described earlier.I am currently using a-squared anti-malware software.Anyway thanks for this discussion

This is the (in)famous USB spreading virus. Not very harmful btw, and lets you know that your computer is infected, the moment it gets in ;) The key point in removing this virus is turning off the system restore feature on windows, otherwise no matter how many times you delete it, it will reappear. Just turn off system restore, boot in safe mode and delete the exe file (excluding the one in windows/system32 , which is a windows system file). You may also need to tweak the registry values (like view hidden files setting) which have been changed due to the infection. And one more word , there is no need to avoid the usb drive usage on your machines, but just turn off the auto run features on the external drives , and it should take care of the autorun.ini in the thumb drive, which brings the virus to life. Or else switch to linux / MAC ;)
