Abuse Allegations at Oprah's school

Can you imagine how heart wrenching this must be for Oprah? As I read about how she apologized and 'begged for forgiveness' to the parents of student at her South Africa school, I couldn't help but wonder why she didn't spend her $46 million in the US or even North America especially after her segment on how poor the US education system is. I'm not saying that there would not have been any abuse in the states... realistically, this could have happened anywhere in the world! However I do understand that she wanted to give underpriviledge African little girls a chance to do something with their life. I'm sure her idea was genius at the time. I'm sure she worked out all the little details to make this work. And by *she* I mean her team. Did they expect these brilliant girls to grow up and move to the US? or build a better life in Africa to enrich their own country? But now what? What's going to happen? I'm curious to find out everyone else's view on this one!

Am really feeling for Oprah. Though am not really sure whether this allegations are true or its just a way of spoiling her name. it was not a bad idea for to take 46 million bucks to Africa rather it was a better one. Africa is a developing world compared to U.S and it was a worth course. Crime can be even in churches in America. They meant that this girls grow up well educated to become better African leaders. They are the future Nelson Manderas. I pray that this case solved well and everything goes back to normal. Oprah is not going to give up on this girls. She is someone with a big heart. I love to meet her one day.

The alligations are not about Oprah...She has NO Control over an employee...That is just like here in the US...School teachers are being nailed for abusing students. You don't see the School adminstrations going to jail for that. UNLESS they protect and try to cover it up. Oprah is not covering it up...She brought out in the open, and GOD knows if she wanted to with her fortune, she could make arrangements to cover something like that up if she was that type of person...Oprah hasn't done anything wrong, so this should not do anything to harm her name. We all have to remember that Oprah herself was a victim of abuse...She will do what ever she can to get justice for those children and healing too.

I really feel for Oprah. With all her wealth and good intentions, even she could not escape the things some people do. I have to wonder what is going on in this world. Why are so many teachers and those we trust with our children doing such bad things? It is not a very good feeling about society as a whole.

Your statement hits home: Even she could not escape the things some people do. Goes to show that money cannot buy everything!

It seems media is a glutten for gossip and when there is something good going on..leave it to the media to try to find something bad..It's the nature of the beast.. I truly think it's awful how the media has brought up such things..It's all propaganda for the news channels who dont have enough junk to cloud up you tv screens with.

I just did a quick check on the allegation story. I knew Oprah had started a school in south Africa...but it's the first I heard about the abuse. I admire Oprah and she must have felt so bad and mad at the people concerned who didn't even inform her when the first girl complained. After all the money she has spent (I know other people's money too..but she took the initiative) AND the trouble, this shouldn't have happened. I am so sorry for the girls and Oprah.

This just goes to show us how bad of an epidimic abuse is all over the world. It is not predujice to any parties. These snakes can manipulate even someone as powerful as Oprah imagine how easy it is for them to manipulate an innocent child.

i know the reason why she did it there and not the states was because african is her heritage..its not a bad thing to wanna help....yea she could do alot of good for the u.s but the u.s should do the good for the u.s we have the money to do so. if they would quit spending it on other things. africa is not that fortunate.... i know that the things here in the u,s are so good. but when i was growing up i always said i was ganna buy millions of gallons of clean water and take it to kenya.. of course i havnt met that goal lol but u know there are other places that are not so forunate. and as for the allgiations... omg! i couldnt imagine what she is feeling like right now... none of it was her fault how could she have known...
