What is your thermostat set at?

Specifically how warm do you keep your home when it's cold outside? And do you try to conserve your heating soure whatever that might be? The reason I'm asking is because I'm sitting here freezing at the moment and it's not even very cold outside. My s/o's parents insist on conserving their expensive fuel oil. I can understand that but the thermostat is set at 60. I think that's a little extreme.

Hi foxyfire I think thats alittle extreme too. I keep mine set at 68 degrees. Right now my heat hasnt even come on because the sun is out and its not cold out at all. Sometimes on days like this it does feel colder in your house. I usually put alot of candles around especially in the room Im in now. You would be suprised how warm it makes it. Try it. And it smells nice too.LOL

Candles do make HUGE difference. Atmy old house I loved to burn them in the winter. Certain scents even "felt" warmer....but they have a thing against candles here too. Let me rephrase that, they have a thing against anything I do.

I keep mine at 68 for the winter..in the summer I raise it up to about 74...but 68 can get chilly when you sit around. When I am cleaning it's fine...but just watching tv...it gets chilly.

That's when I notice it the most too, watching tv or here at the computer. Sunday I was sick and feverish and too achey to move much plus it was cold outside and that was a miserable day!

I had that the other day too and ended up with a very severe cold...yesterday I took this tylenol severe cold remedy you mix it in hot water....man did that make a difference....it broke up my cold and achy feeling....you might want to try that.

We keep our thermostat at 60 when we go to bed. When we rise it goes up to 63. Seldom do we raise it higher. My husband is comfortable with this temperature. I freeze. Even when I don more layers I am still cold.

Right now we dont even have a thermostat to set. We haven't had the gas service turned on yet. Hopefully we can get it on before it snows here. When we do have heat I set it at 65 during the day and 55 at night. Right now we are using a kerosene heater in the mornings and evenings to take the chill off the house. Heating costs are supposed to be really high this winter. I am worried about it since we barely make ends meet already.

And see I completely agree with that. I know the oil will be expensive so I'm trying to be understanding but we don't even have any little heaters running to get the chill off. We are all barely making ends meet too, except my s/o and I barely get what we need, his parents get whatever they want and deal with their needs later...like taking a driving trip several states away from here 2 weeks ago and then making us all freeze because they don't have the money for fuel oil!

That sounds so nice and cozy! Sunday it was so chilly that I "wore" a fleece blanket around all day over my pants and long sleeze shirts. Today is nice here too, it just hasn't really warmed up inside from the overnight cold.

When it is cold outside we set the thermostat to about 65. But I live in the Southern portion of the US and it doesn't get that cold around here. Right now we have the air conditioning on. It fells like a summer day outside. Its about 80 degrees outside today.
