Do you use pop up ads to advertise your business?

Lately I've been getting lots of pop ups from various business related sites that I've visited. And, I was wondering whether or not, pop ups are really an effective advertising strategy for an online business. What do you think? Do you use pop ups or pop unders to advertise your business? Do they convert visitors into paying customers? Do your visitors complain about the pop ups?

I would be less likely to buy something from a site that used pop ups. They are just too annoying. I think they are a little bit underhanded, too. I would never use them on my own website.
