Are You Game To Pick Up Frogs From Your BackYard.

I have always been fascinated by frogs. Have learnt the best ways to handle them etc and how to help create a new habitat. When they come into my backyard, yeah, I pick them up and have a good look at them. I show my kids too, and tell them and show them how to handle them. When they are a little bit older, I will go into more detail about frogs and teach them about how to protect these beautiful creatures. So, are you curious when it comes to our amphibous friends? Do you pick them up and have a look? Or are you the kind of person who admires from afar? Don't get me wrong, I always put them back where i found them, so that they can keep going with their little lives.

Thanks for the vivid pics of frogs internal organs! lol. I've been lucky enough not to have been subjected to this in the past. I think here in Oz, they should be sending the kids out for Cane Toads (non native) and try to achieve 2 things at once! lol.

I love frogs! But to dissect them! I feel so sad for those poor animals.

We have toads all over the place here. I used to play with them all the time when I was younger. I'd find bugs and feed them. It was cool, they'd just sit there and wait for me to come back with a bug, then gulp it down. We had one with a messed up leg and we saw him every year when they came back out. That was neat to see him back after the winter. I don't know what heppened to his leg, it looked like it got squashed or something, so I fed him all the time, until he stopped coming around. I don't remember how many years he hung around, but he was my buddy.

Then I felt bad about condemning the poor june bugs to their deaths. They might have lived a long happy life if not for my interferrance.

It is nice to see them come back again and again. It means you provide an enviornment they are happy with. frogs and toads are an integral part of our ecosystems and feeding them is a great way to give them a helping hand!

Fascination for frogs (FFF)?? I do remember having a kind of attachment for these ambhibians, a moist, slimy creature with two big eyes popping up on either side hopping forever for habitat. How was that? lol.. Jokes apart, I used to feel sick when we were supposed to cut chloroformed toads in biology class.I still remember, on Thursdays I used to feign tummy pains and stuff like that to skip the trauma of disection. I somehow managed those science classes, it was a real dread though. I haven't come across another live frog since then and I am glad that I didn't. For FFF has always been countered by the immense sadness that deter true understanding of the creature!

You are indeed a thoughtful person. Trust me not all these days care about a frog or such creatures for that matter. I would try to be more compassionate next time. Thanks.

I can't believe the number of responses I've received about people having to dissect these beautiful creatures in high school. I never had to, although in Agricutlture, when I chickens got attacked by a fox, our teacher said why not! Frogs are fascinating creatures and a good indicator of how an ecosystem is going. I like watching how they interact with the world around them and their reactions to me. most seem to enjoy my company, once I've caught them. I am very gentle in handling them and the way I speak to them.

CUTE!! ^^ Frogs are so great and if they were around here I'd probably try to catch a couple of them myself! I do put them back, or they leap out and escape. A bit of a heartbreaker from my perspective. Amphibians and reptiles are great!

And they can be used to monitor the health of an ecosystem too! It rained quite hard here the other night, and the frog chorus was amazing!

we have a pond with newts and toads and frogs. me and my little sister (who is 6) handle them and (gross time!) we feed slugs to the hedgehogs and what a noise they make when they bite in!

Now that is cruel! lol. I'd at least put salt on the slugs first! lol. I like teaching my kids about our local wildlife, but it seems the wildlife is just as interested in them! Screams all round! lol.

children loves frogs! Mine do, when I can find one for them. Tadpolling is something I did as a child, but only ever ended up with the yucky, horrible type frogs that we don't want in our back yards (cane toads). Oh, and I was never allowed to keep them as pets either. Strict parents on that score. I love all animals and would chase a python if given the chance! lol. Just call me crazy.

The frogs in our backyard are too fast for anyone to pick up, and I do think they might be toads. I am not that fascinated with frogs, well because I took science and we had to dissect them. (No if someone offered my frog legs, I would still eat them. I guess I am the squeamish type.) I have never picked up a live frog, I guess it is because they would jump out of my hands. I think they should be left alone. Oh and I do like Kermit.

LOL. I know what you mean. I just seem to have the knack of sitting in the wrong spot when they go hopping by and ended up with them in my lap. i am always very careful when I handle them and make sure they go right back where I found them. With so many endangered species of frogs here, I'm trying to educate my children on how to hold and look after them. They think it is quite neat. If I manage to get a breeding permit, then I will be releasing the majority into the wild to help restock the wild populations.

LOL. Yeah, I'm that way with some things too. When it comes to animals though, I am very curious and pick up just about anything! And I've been bitten for my efforts, but that's my fault not theirs!
