Which is safer: dogs tied up or not?

Some people believe that dogs should be tied up or be imprisoned in a cage to keep them from biting other people. Do you think it will work better than giving freedom to your dogs? In my opinion, dogs should be treated kindly so that they would also treat us that way. Also, I observed dogs who are tied up and I find them more aggresive than those dogs who are freely walking around. What do you think?

I think its cruel to have them chained or caged..There is no point in owning animals if thats what you have to do with them...I have 2 dogs and they run free around the large backyard, they are so happy..

yeah, it's really cruel but I really can't blame the people in here because nobody has a house with a backyard in our area. Our houses doesn't have any backyard because of so many houses built side by side. But some of us had bigger lots but most people here prefer to use it in business like small stores. ..^^..cherry

If they haven't got the space to provide for the animal they shouldn't have the animal. They wouldn't keep one if they couldn't feed it would they? Space & exercise is also a necessity.

What would your attitude be like if you were tied up or caged all day? Not good I bet. Why would you expect different from an animal? People who say & do this kid of stuff make the agressive dogs then fuss when they escape & cause problems. Dogs need a nice sized fenced in yard where they can get some exercise & entertainment. I've got two of the biggest, most feroscious looking TEDDY BEARS you've ever seen ( see my profile pics ) & their part WOLF. Their that way because I treated them well & their NOT on a chain but in a 1/6 acre pen.

You're dogs are really cute!..^^..It's nice that you got a land for your dogs. That is a great way for them to use their legs to walk and run. I also don't like cages because it keeps the dogs from exercising their muscles and I know what it feels to sit all day long. In fact, it's more tiring than walking all day.

I think you are 100% right! It's cruel to keep dogs tied up all of the time & alot of times it can make them more aggressive or alot more hyper. Dogs need love & affection, attention from their people & guidance & obedience training so that they can be happy & polite members of society. They do not need to be tied up & left in the back yard all alone & only see people when they are getting fed, that is cruel & inhumane.

i'm not a pet lover but i had been with a family of pet lovers, and with them i learned how a dog should be treated. for them dogs are also human with feelings. and they believe that if your treat a dog kindly, the dog would grow up in a behaviourus manner so there's no need for you to tie him up since he wont do any harm.

I also agree that your dogs will treat you the way you treat them so it's very important to befriend your pets. Thanks! ..^^..cherry

Hi Cherry, I think keeping a dog tied up is more for the protection of the dog. I mean a roaming dog is subject to being picked up by Animal Control or being shot or harmed by someone. I understand what you mean about them being aggresive while tied up, but you really cant just let a dog, or any animal roam free like that. If they are that agressive I think some sort of behavioral classes are in order. You can teach a dog that being tied up is not a bad thing. I guess if somoene keeps their dog tied up all the time, never letting them run and play with them supervising, this would cause a dog to be even more aggresive. I think just like any other living creature they need play time, exercise and attention. Bay Lay Gray xx

Yeah..I somehow remember when I was walking down the sreet, I felt really scared because FOUR dogs are fighting with each other. I really wanted to go home at that time but I can't pass through because I'm frozen in the spot trying to lessen my movement so that they won't bite me. Thank goodness someone came and shooed the dogs away. You've got a point there. My mom also preferred dogs to be tied up because you never know if they'll bite someone and of course we will be the one to handle the medical fees as long as that person didn't harm the dog. I like your opinion..^^..that really made me remember something important. Oh yeah, we don't have Animal Control in our area because we are a bit away from the capital so stray dogs who have no owners are very rampant here. ..^^..cherry

Thank you Cherry! Sounds like they sure need some sort of Animal Control there. I mean if a person gets bit by a dog, they have the chance of contracting rabies, and thats not a fun medical procedure to have to endure. I guess in your case all you an do is just stay away from them the best you can. Carry a stick with you when you walk, you can shoo them away with it. Just make sure its strong enough so it dont break easily! Be careful. Bay xx

i think a dog on a leash will be more aggressive than the dogs that are not.... dogs that are not tied up can be more friendly than a dog on a leash.

That is also my observation. Dogs tied up are yearning for freedom that's why they tend to fight for their rights just like us. ..^^..cherry

I don't think dogs shud b tied up so that they don't bite up ne1.. I have never tied up my dog ever.. I have trained him myself, he takes my commands very well.. He only barks at people who enter our house, but once he sees we r talking with that guy, and that guy is no stranger, he just calms down, and even jumps a little on the visitor just out of happiness...
