Aww--the candy should be enough to keep the kids happy---I didn't get any pumpkins either except those really small ornamental kind...but I do have the place decorated and I have two "fake" flashing pumpkins that are flashing up a storm now..heheee

I do not think the kids would mind. There is not an ordinance in your town or neighborhood that anyone that does not have a jack o lantern gets fined and thrown in the hoosgow, is there? Are all the children going to picket your house just because you have not a carved pumpkin with a very scary face with a candle or a light inside? We have houses with fake tomb stones, and fake skeletons plus filled orange and green bags of leaves. And it is a wonder that the season was long enough for any pumpkins to mature, so no one has done too much of that. I guess it depends on where you are. Oh let us know when they let you out of jail. :)

I really am to the point where I don't think kids care as much. Now days everything is different than when we were all younger. My kids cared about the pumpkin, but that is because there grandma gave us a dozen of them from her garden. But when I answer the door to trick or treaters and they aren't even wearing a costume, I am disappointed. This year, I didn't have the time to get out and buy costumes because I have been ill. But I did get on line and I went to RavensBlight and downloaded stuff to make masks for them, and we have play clothes, so they went through them and found stuff to match the masks. Sure they wanted costumes from the store, but they were just happy to have costumes. I think one of the reasons I got trick or treaters is because I did have a huge pumpkin sitting at the bottom of the stairs. I was the only one on the block with any lights on for that matter. But I don't think it was the fact that the pumpkin was real either. I think it was because my lights were on, so the kids assumed I was giving out candy. i think now days, to kids it isn't really about the spirit of the day, but what you can get for free with so little effort. Times have really changed since we were the little trick or treaters, you know.

We only had 3 trick or treaters and I was so disappointed, and so were my youngest kids. And they would sit on the porch and tell every kid they saw to come get treats. That was so disappointing for them because they had so much fun trick or treating. I have 4 kids and they went out for all of an hour last night and came home with 20 lbs of candy. We are donating all the suckers, hard candy and gum to an organization though. And that still leaves over 10 lbs of candy.

They shouldn't be mad at you. I know my kids wouldn't be. I haven't had a real pumpkin in years. Like you I just have to fake ones that light up. They are just so much easier. No mess and you can reuse them every year, unlike real ones. But now that my kids are old enough now, I might get them one next year to carve. My youngest two are just 3 and 4 years old, so they are really old enough to understand fully about carving a pumpkin.

Yes we taking them trick or treating. My daughter(3) is going to be a witch, My son(4) is going to be spiderman, and then my stepson(10) is going to be a scary clown pimp. Well at least that is what he is calling himself. He has this scary looking clown mask, he's going to wear all black, he has a cane with dollar signs on it, and then a necklace with this really big logo looking thing on it that has dollar signs on it as well. My husband most likely won't dress up, but I have had my devil horns on all day.

I believe that they wont be mad at you because of the candy. I think it doesn't have to be real pumpkin or not as long as they see a pumpkin and the candy as a treat. There would be very glad with that.

I live in a failrly large city. The kids out trick or treating has gotten scarce the past few years. I have no pumpkin and don't plan on answering the door if any do knock. Last year I think we had maybe 5 kids was all. I got fat eating all the candy left over. HAHAHA!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I don't have one either. I don't think the little kids care as long as there is candy. I just didn't get around to it, and since I'm at work, there's no way my hubby will do it. So, they can take it or leave it.

I would say as long as the candy is good they won't mind. That's cute that you would think it would matter to them though, maybe next year you'll have that "real" pumpkin out for decorations.

I'm sure it'll be more than okay! Most of the kids will be happy with the candy alone and the decorations are an added touch. They'll be happy.. it's not always about real pumpkins! At least you saved yourself from having some punk kids trying to smash your pumpkins. I've seen a lot of that around by my house this year!

Hi Terry, Sorry I'm a little late on responding to this one but I was going to say that honestly I don't think the kids would have really cared had your house been decorated or not decorated, pumpkin, or no pumpkin. On Hallowe'en kids seemed to get "posessed" by candy, and that is all that's on their mindss! Love & Hugzz, PurpleTeddyBear.

In my day, kids spent almost as much time trying to please adults and adults now do trying to please kids, but here's an idea if you want to try that again next year. If they say where is your pumpkin, just put on a witch hat and run after them yelling, "Ooooooh, YOUR my little pumpkin....c'mere!" LOL. On second thought, that probably wouldn't fly...
