Do avatars make a difference?

I have a small question. It's a rather daft question, but I have just noticed something. When I'm browsing discussions, I seem to be drawn to look at discussions with the most colour avatar beside them! So, the qustion is - do avatars make a difference to you? Are you the same? To me, the people that just have the "MyLot" avatar just don't get a look in, and that's very mean! What's the reason that your avatar is what it is? Mine is because it's my favourite picture of me, but I'm beginning to wonder whether I should change to a more colurful picture! Lol! Hope you're all having a good day! Take Care and thanks for reading x

I always looks at people's avatar, and wish those that have the standard one would change it. It gives me a bit of idea what you are like. I would think that we pick something that is "us" and shows the world a little bit about us. Mine is one of my tattoos - it means a lot to me.

i think it does make a difference. it is a self expresion. this is how we express ourself. others put their own photo and others put cartoons. some put their chilsd picture and some just dont mind hahaha. self expression is what avatars means

I'm tired of seeing default avatars here, I sometimes wonder why they won't atleast put something that best describes them. Also, I found similar avatars every once in a while. This bothers me also, since there are lots of photos available on the net to be downloaded and even those private photos saved in our PC's. As for me, I have changed my avatars here many times but I always go back from where people mostly recognize me!;) Although I love posting according to the nature of the discussions, I would prefer seeing people make a "personality" here!;)

First of all let me tell you that your avatar is very beautiful. I also think that good colouful avatars attracts people's notice more. If we are used to a particualr avatar, it is more likely that we will look at the discussion beside it. In my opinion it do make difference.

The avatars of those involved in discussions do not really matter to me. What's more important and catches my eye is the subject matter and whether I can relate to it and contribute something. If I am not familiar with the subject, I will just pass. As for my avatar, I found this on the internet and like the mean look of the robot and the colours used. I am a Science person, so attracted to techy things. It doesn't really relate to me in any other way, like I am a mean person so something like that. I guess a more effective way of sizing up a person here is through what the person writes in his/her posts, and the characteristics mentioned in his/her profile.

When it comes to me, the avatar doesn't matter. I had an avatar of a video game character Aerith Gainsborough before the MACO patch. It'll change again tomorrow since I did MACO for Halloween. But still even with the benign avatar, I didn't get that much attention or responses with several discussions and I've had my star rating sent to the basement. I believe I could have an avatar of Hillary and I'd still be having people hitting the - button on me because they fail at reasoning, debating and realizing people have different opinions.

Well, avatars don't make a difference to me. What caught me firsthand would be the topic and the discussion. I always browse today's top discussions or today's hot topics, then new discussions, then discussions my friends started so that I get to read every topic available, then if I think I can give a good comment or answer to a discussion, I'll write no matter what the avatar is he he he...

I agree that you can sort of tell what kind of person it is by her avatar. You can to some degree tell a person's personalty, likes and dislikes by her avatar. Of course, there are people who use avatars to try to mislead people about themselves, many for fun I guess. I am drawn to people's avatars, I confess. However, I don't use it as a criteria to determine whether I should read their posts or not. By the way, the avatar I am using is not me. I am not that handsome!
