ADHD medications

Does your child take medications for ADHD? What do they take? Are you happy with how the medication controls the symptoms, or do you still have problems with the ADHD? I have an 11 yr old that takes Adderall. I am happy most of the time with the way it controls the symptoms of ADHD. I have a 9 yr old that takes Strattera, and I don't really know if I see much of a difference in how he behaves sometimes. I guess that would say that the Strattera really isn't controlling the symptoms. I think I will make an appointment with the doctor to have his meds re-evaluated.

My son is 7 almost 8. He takes Concerta. The doctor prescribed him 18 mg to start. The first few weeks it seemed to help a lot, but after about 4 weeks it stopped working so well. He was starting to behave like his old self. The doctor upped it to 27mg. The first day he toke the higher dose he was acting worse than ever. He got switch back to 18mg, and is doing a little better but not like the first few weeks. He has an appointment on Friday. The doctor is thinking about switching him to Adderall.

Before Adderall, my son was on Concerta. When we moved we had to find a new doctor, and the new doctor said the Concerta was not fully controlling the symptoms. So we switched to Adderall. Now let me tell you, we saw a lot more control over the symptoms. Does your son have a hard time sleeping with the meds, or did your doctor give you meds to help with that

No meds for sleeping. He does not want to go to bed at night and does not want to wake up in the morning. He usually gets around 9 hours of sleep every night.

Wow, nine hours is still good. My son has to have additional medications to go to sleep, but the meds that he takes at night also help with ADHD symptoms in the evening, and he is bi-polar as well, and this medication is for Bi-polar too. There are other medications that have a success rate with ADHD children that will help them fall asleep at night, and have a lasting effect through the morning. You may want to talk to the doctor about that as well.

My 17 year old daughter is on medication for her ADHD. She takes Adderall XR, and has for several years. We are very happy with the way it works for her. She used to take Ritalin, and that didn't work quite as well for her.

Have you ever tried ProvexPlus from Melaleuca? I know that I have talked to you about the company before. I recently had a customer who came to me who wanted to order the ProvexPlus from me for their child with ADHD. I had never heard about how this vitamin suppliment would work for this condition until I had meet her and did some research on the net and found so many people talking about how it worked for their child. That person just got back to me and had me order two more bottles for her. She says she can really see the difference. I do purchase things for other people also who don't wish to sign up for Melaleuca, or perhaps you know someone who is already with them in your area. Below is one of the discussions I found of someone saying it worked for them. http://adhdsupport.proboards23.com/index.cgi?board=ForADHDcommembers&action=display&thread=1128026464&page=2 I hope you find what your child needs.

My boys (6 and 9) were on Concerta for a year then we moved and the insurance here wouldn't cover it. They were switched to Adderall. I noticed my 9 yo not eating alot and not sleeping much. After fighting with insurance for almost a year I finnally got them switched back to Concerta. Hopefully things will get back to normal. The doc said if I still have problems with the 9 yo sleeping then he can give him a med for that but I really would rather him not have to be on a sleep med!!

My 9 year old son is on straight Ritalin (generic). This is also what I was on when I was a kid. I found through trial and error that this works best for him. We tired other meds and they didn't help, had to keep uping them. His behavior this year in school is dramatically improved from last year.

My 5 year old son was on Ritalin and it worked great except that he wouldn't be hungry until it wore off. For now we have switched him to Provigil. It doesn't work as well as the ritalin but it doesn't affect his appetite. He starts school in the fall so he may have to go back on Ritalin. When he's older will have more options as to which medicines he can take. Your 9 year old may just have to have the dose raised. When we started with the Ritalin we started with the smallest dose possible and raised it until his symptoms improved. Good luck
