How much paid vacation do you get?

Another thread prompted me to ask this question. I moved from England (where three weeks is the norm) to America and am appalled that there is so little regard for paid vacation. I work in retail and though part-time I can work up to 39 hours a week and yet even though I have been in the job nearly two years as yet I haven't qualified for any paid vacation. Americans seem to be art the bottom of the league tables when it comes to taking/getting vacation time.
How much do you get?

This sounds almost like my story ..working almost 2 years and not yet earned a paid vacation.. I am afraid to ask for a vacation lest I come back and my position be given to someone else..
My boss is nice but I kind of picture him as that ebeneazor in the old Charles Dickens movie "The Christmas Carol" .
He has lots but am afraid he doesnt like to let go of any too easily

I find it amazing that there aren't laws here requiring minimum vacation days. I don't think I will ever get used to living here and some of the strange things that go on that people take for granted and then have the temerity to say this is the greatest country on earth - don't get me wrong I love America but there are some odd things here.
