Another problem with Governor Spitzer's plan to give illegal aliens driver's licenses is the question of security when it comes to purchasing guns. Do you know what the requirements are to purchase a gun in your state? Well here in New York, I believe you need... A DRIVER'S LICENSE! How safe are we going to be when anyone can come here- get a license and get a gun? Is anyone as disturbed about illegal aliens (according to Hillary Clinton there are a couple million in New York State alone) having access to voting rights and guns because they willl have access to driver's licenses? It is against federal law for an undocumented or illegal immigrants to have a gun. So wouldn't this proposal of Spitzer's be in violation of federal law simply because it gives illegal aliens documentation that will allow them access to fire arms? I'm not an expert so if anyone else has anymore information please share. I'm going to do a little more research myself. But really...what do you think of Spitzer's plan and the threat of anyone being able to come hear, get a license and get a gun?

Your entry brings up a few problems with our drivers' license laws. A drivers' license proves only that you have passed a test, proven your age and filled out some paperwork. It doesn't prove anything else. Politicians that says a drivers' license should be sufficient for proof of anything else is contributing to fraud and other criminal behavior.

you know i hadnt really stopped considered what exactly a drivers license proves...and ParaTed is spot on..we have proven that we know the rules of the road and can drive a car...thats it. this whole plan of Spitzers just keeps getting more worrisome, it gives the "opening a floodgate" type of feeling. are the chances of his plan being put into affect that good? does he have that much support?

A lawsuit was brought against Spitzer about it on yesterday. So we wait to see what happens with that. Apparently he has the support of some (including Hillary Clinton and Obama- which disturbs me- those were my two favorite candidates out of the see of bad choices-lol)but I believe here in New York there is tons of opposition to his plan. Especially from the citizens. Lou Dobbs (CNN) is having great fun with this.

58 Sheriffs in New York State are coming out against Spitzer's Plan. Other states are coming out against the plan to because it puts their state's security at risk because once they get a license they can move where ever they want. They can also get bank accounts and credit cards etc. New York is going to be a safe haven for illegals where other areas are taking a stand against illegal immigration.

What is interesting is that no Democrat has come out again his proposal. They are only lookiing at 5,000,000 new votes and not the problems. Typical of a politician - a headline today - a law tomorrow - and we will spend the next thirty years trying to solve all the problems with more lowa and more problems for law abiding Citizens.

I agree... I'm very dissappointed in both Clinton and Obama for actually endorsing his plan :( This has really put a voter like me in a pickle. But there's no other candidate I like.

Have you found out yet that Spitzer's plan has different categories? If a person can produce a birth certificate and passport, they get a Homeland Security backing on their license that they can use for travel. Just a birth certificate or green card is another kind of license...regular but not DHS secure. Those who are undocumented get the back part that says 'for driving purposes only'. That's the full story and Spitzer's plan has been distorted all to hell and back, by those with an agenda that demands they twist what he proposes. Any wonder why he's not being chewed to shreds by those who actually DO understand what he's doing?
