I had my post-operative checkup today from the periodental surgery I had last month. They gave me more tools to clean the area with, scheduled for regular cleaning, and started talking about doing another quarter of my mouth. This procedure cost $2500 for a quarter of the mouth which is what I did, after insurance I paid only $1000, but that is still a hunk of change for me.
The attendant got on to me, saying my pockets will never get any better, they will only get worse, and we still have the bottom two quarters to do - They have to be done as soon as possible - you cant keep waiting -
One would think I'm some kind of suicidal patient refusing help ...
I started to be more serious about my dental care well over seven or eight years ago after years of neglect. My pockets at the time were up to 11 mm. With some aggressive cleaning, they did get down to 7 mm max. But most are in the more "normal" 3 and 2 range.
Then there was my root canal that I also paid $1000 - that was an emergency, with pain and the bit. They had to do it over, and still I am going to end up losing it because the swelling at the gum line isn't going down.
Do these people think I'm made out of money? I did nothing for literally decades and now I'm doing something. Took me several years to get $1,000 to do a little more and all of a sudden - rush - rush - rush
By the way, the "pockets" I was referring to are the areas between the roots of your teeth and the gums. Current theory is the deeper the pockets, the more stuff that get trapped in there, making them harder to clean, and is the cause of gum disease.
